About this audiobook
Michael Bloomberg’s life sounds like an exaggerated version of The American Story, except his adventures are real.
From modest Jewish middle class (and Eagle Scout) to Harvard MBA to Salomon Brothers hot shot (where he gets “sent upstairs” and later fired) to creator of the Bloomberg terminal, a machine that would change Wall Street and the financial universe and make him a billionaire, to presidential candidate in 2020, Randolph’s account of Bloomberg’s life reads almost like a novel.
“A vivid, timely study of Bloomberg’s brand of plutocracy” (Publishers Weekly), this engaging and insightful biography recounts Mayor Bloomberg’s vigorous approach to New York City’s care—including his attempts at education reform, anti-smoking and anti-obesity campaigns, climate control, and new developments across the city.
After he engineered a surprising third term as Mayor, Bloomberg returned to his business and philanthropies that focused increasingly on cities. The chapter that describes this is one of the most revealing of his temperament and energy and vision as well as how he spends his “private” time that was virtually off-limits even when he was mayor.
Bloomberg promised to give away his money before he died, and his giving has focused on education, gun control, and a fighting climate change. He joined the 2020 presidential campaign as a moderate liberal and spent his millions focused on ousting President Donald Trump.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5it is an outstanding publication of Eleanor Randolph so elegantly describing the life of one of the Maharajas of Major Technology Empire and an exceptional Billionaire Philanthropist of the world.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Excellent story. Engaging and inspiring. Told well. I would recommend it.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5A biography of former Mayor of New York and business Titan. The book bordered oh hagiography as it coincided with his ill-fated run for the presidency and attempted to paint him as a very capable leader. In totality this may have had some merit as Mr. Bloomberg is certainly a talented innovator and administrator. Would this have carried over into the immense responsibility of leadership in the presidency is questionable.Mike Bloomberg's driven an visionary zeal made him a billionaire. He attempted to apply this to government in his tenure as mayor of the major metropolis, New York. Some success, some failure but overall one has to probably concede Bloomberg's work in the mayor ship was on balance impressive. The book spends most of its contents on this period of his life. We learn precious little about his personal life. The one disturbing element of Mike Bloomberg that surfaces throughout his life is the massive use of personal accumulated wealth to influence outcomes, particularly political. And unfortunately it more and more defines our political system.
