About this audiobook

Bridgerton fans will like this one.” —Julia Quinn, #1 New York Times bestselling author

The Regency Vows series that is “sure to delight Bridgerton fans” (USA TODAY) returns with this story about a viscount and his irascible new wife who hopes to chase her husband from their shared home so that she can finally get some peace and quiet—only to find that his company is not as onerous as she thought.

Viscount Penvale has been working for years to buy back his ancestral home, Trethwick Abbey, from his estranged uncle. And so he’s thrilled when his uncle announces that he is ready to sell but with one major caveat—Penvale must marry his uncle’s ward, Jane Spencer.

When the two meet in London, neither is terribly impressed. Penvale finds Jane headstrong and sharp-tongued. Jane finds him cold and aloof. Nevertheless, they agree to a marriage in name only and return to the estate. There, Jane enlists her housekeeper for a scheme: to stage a haunting so that Penvale will return to London, leaving her to do as she pleases at Trethwick Abbey. But Penvale is not as easily scared as his uncle and as their time together increases, Jane realizes that she might not mind her husband’s company all that much.

With her trademark “arch sense of humor and a marvelously witty voice” (Entertainment Weekly), Martha Waters crafts another delightful romp for all historical romance fans.

I really tried with this book. I’m sure the story is wonderful, but Joel Froomkin sounds like he whines every word that comes out of his mouth for every character he was voicing. It graded on my nerve so severely I only got a couple hours in to the book. The male narrator had done most of the talking up to that point as well.
Definitely will not listen to any books he narrates in the future!

Far and away the worst book of this series so far. All the others had been 4 star reads, but this one attempted to wedge in a new character as a love interest, took our MCs away from the group that makes this series what it is, forced an underdeveloped slow burn, and threw in a truly painful and unnecessary 3rd act miscommunication. Shame.

I have loved each book in this series very much. The Last being my favorite, To Marry and to Meddle. I knew Penvales book would be one to look forward to. Penvale has been saving for years to buy his childhood home. It was not entailed, and his uncle had purchased it. Said uncle is now wanting to sell Trethwick Alley. Viscount Penvale is ready, and today, whatever his uncle asks. However, there is a stipulation to meet that he has to marry the ward of his uncle,Emily. I did have a few issues with Emily in the beginning, but she grew on me. Upon taking residence, he finds it is now haunted. Will he and Emily find love or just friendship? When and why can't he get a good night's sleep. Why is that ghost wearing his wife's nightgown
It's a fun journey to get that question answered. Old faces we get to check in with and nice big HEA. Good fun

Viscount Penvale's uncle finally agrees to sell him the ancestral family home. But there's a catch: Penvale must wed Jane, the uncle's ward. When Penvale meets Jane, they fall deeply in hate—yet a marriage of convenience is the only way for each of them to reach their goals. They come to an agreement and move into the home that the servants claim is haunted. Will their ghost-hunting adventures lead to love?

The books in this series get better and better. This one is an all-out romp that kept me laughing from start to finish. It's witty and clever and a pure joy to read.

Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC I received. This is my honest and voluntary review.
