About this audiobook

"Konrath is one of the greatest thriller writers alive."
--Blake Crouch, bestselling author of Wayward Pines

In 1906, a crew of workers at the Panama Canal unearthed something that could not be identified or explained. Something sinister. And very much alive . . .

One hundred years later, a team of scientists gather at an underground facility in New Mexico to determine what this being is--the most amazing discovery in the history of mankind--and how it has managed to survive. A biologist will analyze its structure. A veterinarian will study its behavior. A linguist will translate its language. But even the greatest minds in the world cannot answer one inescapable question: Could this ancient creature, this mockery of God and nature, actually be the ancient demon known as . . . the Beast?

This was such an interesting story brings up some real thoughts on religion and mans existence. Primarily its a monster thriller , nice characters , a good narrator and a good story . OK so it's a little slow in the middle but I didn't mind that.

So the beginning is very gripping, but around the middle mark starts to descend into tropes. It has the unbelievable, but in so many books, throw away romance. The conclusion also ultimately feels like a non ending for a sequel I don’t think exists. It was good enough to finish, but the last two thirds don’t really live up to the promise from the start.

I have mixed feelings on Origin. I really didn't like the initial character introductions, they felt forced, but still there was a Michael Crichton like feel to the story. A demon, imprisoned and studied by the government suddenly wakes up. There's the expected screaming, running and dying. All in all, it's a good story with some flaws.

Decent. Pulled me in at the beginning like some of his other books. Lost me about midway through though. It turned into background noise eventually but I did listen to entirely.

I enjoyed the concept of this book and the constant suspense ... BUT I hated the ending. If you dislike ambiguous endings then this is NOT the book for you. Felt the same way after watching the final season of Game of thrones ... with such awesome content ... THIS was the best ending you could come up with? Horrible payout.

Listened to this twice and it was just as fantastic the second time around. This was more like a dark thriller than it was horror. I'm not a horror damn, but goodness this was an incredible performance and an incredible story.

Very interesting. Well-written, but not overly literary. Well-narrated. Not for kids, nor for the faint of heart. Gore is not flamboyantly described, nor is it too prevalent, but your imagination does the rest. Good for a long road trip or whilst performing scads of dry data entry.

Sure there were things that could have been better but honestly it’s been increasingly hard for me to find audio books that I want to listen to every chance I get. Most of the time it’s just something in my ear while I work. This was different, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I usually don't care for books that start off with politics, the president, the military, or anything of that nature. I borrowed this book without reading the description. My only criteria for adding it to my borrow requests was seeing the cover, and of course the author's name. I was a bit disappointed when I started reading, to find that it was about a "top secret government project." So I was pleasantly surprised to find that I enjoyed it anyway.

Origin A TechnothrillerBy: J. A. KonrathNarrated by: Luke DanielsThis is an awesome thriller! A creature is found in 1906, asleep in a coma state. Its monstrous, like our idea of a demon. It is kept secret underground, examined, and monitored for all this time but now it woke up. Its making speech so they get a specialist to go with the other specialists already there. What happens and what they find out about this creature is wild! The whole story is excellent!Narration terrific with Luke Daniels!

Origin is a great little book with outstanding characters and a hook almost guaranteed to get readers to open the book and start reading. The hook is that the US government has Satan captured and held in an impenetrable underground facility for well over a hundred years. As a team of scientists continue to run tests and experiments on the comatose demon, he suddenly wakes up and sets into motion a number of events that create an unforgettable reading experience. The book has few, if any, slow spots and contains a number of interesting plot twists. Konrath writes in a flowing, cinematic style that keeps readers turning pages. This is my third book by Konrath; "Disturb" & "Afraid" are the others and both are excellent. I will look for more from this under-appreciated author.

Fun thriller, not many surprises though and a bit short. A lot of possibilities here, most of them unrealized. Still, enjoyable, I recommend reading it for something short and entertaining with little thought involved.
