About this audiobook
What if the last victim of Cleveland’s infamous Torso Killer got away?
In 1938, a serial killer terrorizes Cleveland, Ohio, leaving a trail of bodies along the rails and riverbeds. Ethel, a street-hardened woman who’s lost everything, takes refuge inside a city mission only to find that its righteous facade conceals the darkest of secrets. As she wanders the twisting corridors, it becomes clear she may never leave the mission alive.
Sixty years later, the police discover the body of Alfred Wiley, dismembered in a disturbingly familiar way. His daughter, Kris, finds herself pulled into Cleveland’s haunting past as things he never told her begin to surface. Stolen books about the unsolved Torso Murders, missing archives, serial killer chat rooms, and an abandoned city mission are all somehow connected to his disappearance. The more she learns of her father’s obsession with the Torso Killer, the further she stumbles into a madman’s sights.
Separated by decades but trapped in the same killer’s web, Ethel and Kris must unravel the truth behind the city’s most notorious unsolved murders…or die trying.

What our readers think
Readers find this title to be a mixed bag. While some appreciate the author's writing style and the fabulous ending, others find the book too long and drawn out. The storyline, based on ghastly historical torso murders, may not be everyone's cup of tea. However, it is acknowledged that the book may appeal to fans of the horror genre. Overall, opinions are divided and it is a matter of personal preference.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The ending was fabulous. But wow was it long and drawn out. Waaaay too long. I don’t think I’d recommend it but it was a good ending

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The story is great but why do people from Ohio have these fake sounding southern accents? It made the audiobook almost unbearable.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5One of my favorite books of all time is The Dead Key by th8s author. I've also enjoyed several other books written by this author. Unfortunately, this was not one of them. I appreciate the imagination and research it took to drop a storyline into the ghastly historical torso murders that still haunt Ohio today but just couldn't get into a flow with this book. I think the Legion, modern-day continued killings, etc. just didn't work for me as something I was interested in reading. Others, I'm sure, will enjoy it as a horror genre, but for me, this one is simply a personal choice of not liking.
