"1984" by George Orwell is a dystopian novel that was published in 1949. The story is set in Airstrip One (formerly known as Great Britain), a province of the superstate Oceania in a world of perpetual war, government surveillance, and manipulation of truth. The novel follows the life of Winston Smith, a low-ranking member of the Party who becomes disillusioned with the oppressive regime led by the enigmatic figure known as Big Brother.
George Orwell
George Orwell (1903–1950), the pen name of Eric Arthur Blair, was an English novelist, essayist, and critic. He was born in India and educated at Eton. After service with the Indian Imperial Police in Burma, he returned to Europe to earn his living by writing. An author and journalist, Orwell was one of the most prominent and influential figures in twentieth-century literature. His unique political allegory Animal Farm was published in 1945, and it was this novel, together with the dystopia of 1984 (1949), which brought him worldwide fame.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5The narrator ‘s word grouping and cadence was at first hard to follow and by the end was somewhat irritating. Perhaps he was trying to mimic “new speech but… the story grinds on too long in my assessment.
