About this audiobook

The time of Odin is over.

The Aesir gods now live among the humans in their bustling modern cities. Their brutal dominion over the other beings of the Nine Worlds may have ended, but their actions have not been forgotten.

Korvain is one of the last full-blooded dark elves, and is feared like no other. His ruthlessness and cold heart are legendary, but when he is given the task of killing one of the most fabled goddesses of all time, he is left with an undeniable desire to make her his own. Failure in his task means only one thing: death. Will he follow his orders, or will he follow his heart?

Bryn's whole world crumbled when she left Odin's service to protect the other Valkyries. Now living with the humans, she is the only thing standing between them and total destruction. But her beliefs are about to be shaken to the core when she meets Korvain—a volatile, completely irresistible dark elf who threatens to take away more than just her innocence ...

very impressive, I'm very picky about more then I'll admit here. Additionally, I'm the last person anyone would expect to be praising a book I'm as likely to find in the 'romance' section @ the library.. That said, I'm a fan. Dawes nailed the male protagonist as expertly as, I.. a male, needed to get on board and stay that way thru to the last word. I'll be starting book II directly. I've got a feeling I've been 'tee'd-up' and book II & III will prove to be even that much more impressive.

I received an ARC from Pan Macmillan, via netgalley, in return for an honest review. If you're into your Norse Gods and like a lot of action with a twist of passion, you are in for a treat! Dark Deceit has strong characters, mixing human and non-human together in this delicious and gritty rollercoaster ride of a novel. It's vicious but soft, cruel yet tender, tells of an electrifying attraction that seeks to triumph against all odds. The mythology isn't factual here, but that doesn't stop the powerful characters springing to life straight from the pages. The story is gripping and intense, I was disappointed when it ended and left me wanting more. I'm very much looking forward to the second Dark book. 4/5
