McCoy's Miracles III: World Class Mentalism with Playing Cards
By Ian McCoy
()
About this ebook
World class mentalism, mindreading and magic using only a deck of playing cards. Unlike his previous publications these pieces require no sleight of hand - and although of a professional nature can easily be learned by the novice.
Each routine has a video link to both performance and explanation which in effect offers a free DVD which is an invaluable teaching tool.
A mentalist is a magician of the mind. And like a good magician he/she creates a sense of wonder, amazement and awe in an audience. But whereas a magician appears to do the impossible – the mentalist does the very unlikely – the extremely unlikely. For this reason mentalism appears more real than traditional magic. People believe there is more than mere trickery going on. They go away seeing your performance as something no one could do by “magic tricks
The pieces offered in this publication are of a professional nature. They are in most cases the invention of the author who has been a professional mentalist and magician for 20 years on both sides of the Atlantic. He was a keen amateur for 20 years before that. He is aware that such routines are usually offered to the “magic” community at very high prices in specialist publications and has been criticized for doing so.
Although the beginner/novice will find these routines easier to perform – they are however good enough to be in the repertoire of any professional magician or mentalist. They may be largely “self working” – but they truly are world class

Introduction
In my third outing on the art of card magic I concentrate wholly on mentalism, mind reading and mental magic. I was going to title the piece M M ‘s World Class Card Magic for Beginners – the reason being that these routines are mostly, self working and require almost zero sleight of hand.
My two previous publications on card magic were quite heavy in sleight of hand – so I wanted to offer easier
routines. The reason however that I did not go with my original title is because I did not want to give the impression that the routines offered here were in any way inferior or less effective than in my sleight heavy publications. On the contrary the routines I offer here are just as effective and magical as those offered in MMI and MMII – and in a couple of cases probably even more so. So although any professional would be delighted with the routines offered, they are certainly easier to learn for the beginner and novice.
While there's really no such thing as a self-working card trick - you still need to learn the procedures and rehearse an interesting presentation - it remains that a simple trick without the use of sleight of hand can be a deadly weapon when slipped into a card magic set. These kinds of effects can add texture to a magic performance and with the tricks you'll learn in this book/video, even if sleight-of-hand really isn't your thing, you'll always be ready to amaze and amuse when someone slides a deck of cards over to you and says, Show me something...
Repeating what I have said before – there is a misconception that people find card tricks boring. This is simply not true. People find bad magic – card tricks included - as boring. They find good magic very interesting. They love excellent magic – including excellent card magic.
And this is what is offered here – excellent magic – or to be more precise excellent mentalism.
The major advantage of these works is the video links to performance and explanation. So as well as the written word you also get live performance and teaching. In effect the reader receives the equivalent of a free DVD. Each piece, without wishing to fall into cliché – really is worth much more than the few
