      Her Secret, Book 1: An Adult Romance

      The cool dawn greeted Julianne as she hauled a bag of trash out to the dumpster behind the small diner where she worked. She paused for a minute to wipe a few strands of ashy blonde hair out of her face, reminding herself to pick up a box of peroxide on her way home, to lighten the mahogany that was beginning to show at her roots. It was the end of a long shift, but she enjoyed working the night shift. There weren’t many customers, even in the middle of tourist season. It was safe.

      Julianne! Customer’s at the counter! the cook’s harsh voice yelled, harried but not unkind.

      I’m coming. She dusted her hands off on her apron and jogged back to the diner, ducking into the back and patting the cook on the shoulder on her way out to the counter. There was only one customer, and she recognized him on sight. Of course, it was hard not to recognize the infamous Seamus O’Reilly, master of the sea as he liked to call himself. The young boat captain was well over six feet tall with massive shoulders and a powerful build from years of hard, manual labor. His wild red hair was scraped back into a curly ponytail, the faint indent of where his hat normally sat visible around his crown. The hat itself rested between his hands, his callused fingers running idly over the brim. He grinned when he saw her and she ducked her head, avoiding his eyes as she fussed with the coffee machine.

      Sorry to keep you waiting, Captain. The usual? Over the six weeks she’d been in this tiny town, she’d never seen Seamus miss a day. Every morning he was here for his coffee before he took fishing groups out onto the cold Atlantic. On days when he didn’t have a full day on the water he stopped in for lunch as well. It helped that the diner was the closest restaurant to the dock.
