What people say about The Lift

  • An incredibly well penned piece of work. He blows me away with each book.
  • A masterclass in how to hook the reader and then rack up the tension level to 100
  • From the moment I read the opening lines I knew this was going to be good.
  • Very atmospheric and forceful short story.
  • CSI Collins is a very believable character and certainly has an enjoyable dry wit. His cynical remarks in the lift are just spot on.
  • The tension builds as we become privy to Eddie's thoughts, fears and anxieties; the claustrophobic setting adding to the sense of menace, as the reasons for the other two's presence are revealed.
  • Eddie is as world-worn and blackly humorous as ever, a character with such depth.
  • The three-hander plays out with the vividness and claustrophobic threat Barrett is so good at creating. You, the reader, are there in that lift.
  • It was real, gritty and gripping. I was in that lift.
  • Andrew has created a gripping and complete tale which challenges stereotype.

Author

Andrew Barrett

Do you like your crime thrillers to have a forensic element that adds to the realism? Do you like your lead character to be someone intense and unafraid to take on authority? Andrew writes precisely that kind of crime thriller, and has done since 1996, about the same time he became a CSI in Yorkshire. He doesn't write formulaic fiction; each story is hand-crafted to give you a unique flavour of what CSIs encounter in real life - and as a practising CSI, he should know what it's like out there. His thrillers live inside the police domain, but predominantly feature CSIs (or SOCOs as they used to known). Here's your chance to walk alongside SOCO Roger Conniston and CSI Eddie Collins as they do battle with the criminals that you lock your doors to keep out, fighting those whose crimes make you shudder. This is as real as it gets without getting your hands bloody. Find out more about him at www.andrewbarrett.co.uk where you can sign up for his newsletter and claim your free starter library.

    Praise for The Lift

An incredibly well penned piece of work.

A masterclass in how to hook the reader and then rack up the tension level to 100 in no time at all.

From the moment I read the opening lines I knew this was going to be good.

Very atmospheric and forceful short story.

The Lift is an excellent short story, there’s no doubt, the author knows what he’s writing about.

CSI Collins comes across as a very believable character and certainly has an enjoyable dry wit. His cynical remarks in the lift are just spot on.

A very fast read that is perfectly executed.

The three-hander plays out with the vividness and claustrophobic threat Barrett is so good at creating.

Eddie is as world-worn and blackly humorous as ever, a character with such depth.

You can feel the tension and nervousness as if you are stuck with them in the lift yourself!

This short is good. Very good, in fact

It was real, gritty and gripping. I was in that lift.

From the first paragraph, I was hooked, and the appeal grew and grew with each page.

I felt like an unseen observer watching the story unfold. The ending was classic; loved it.

Absolutely fantastic what more can I say. Got to get more from this author. Bring it on, real gritty compelling. I need more.
