Starting your day right
My philosophy when it comes to choosing food sources is to always go with natural, whole foods. Stay away from anything pre-packaged and pre-made. Instead of buying the pre-made meatballs, buy minced meat and make your own. Instead of grabbing a fruit yogurt, choose a natural yogurt and add fresh berries or fruit. It’s not only better for your body, but it’s usually a lot tastier as well! Cooking food from scratch is an easy way to keep track of what you are actually putting in your body. It doesn’t have to be time-consuming or difficult. Consider preparing your lunch once a week in batches and store them in the fridge or freezer until you need them. Breakfasts can easily be made days in advance as well. Planning is the one of the key elements for making healthy eating quick and easy.
I am a strong believer in eating everything in moderation. There is nothing wrong with eating your favorite sweet or snack once in a while, as long as you keep the majority of your food choices healthy. How you achieve this balance is up to you. What has worked well for me is to limit treats for the weekend and also being mindful when I eat. I have noticed that in the past when I felt like eating something sweet, I would instinctively go for candy. Nowadays, I tend to reach for fresh fruits, berries and yogurt. Turns out it satisfies my sweet tooth equally well and also leaves me feeling a lot better afterwards! So if you are craving a candy bar, drink a glass of water and consider your options. Keep healthy choices available at all times. Try eating a sweet, ripe mango drizzled with dark chocolate or a fruit salad with blueberries and flaked almonds. Your body and mind will thank
