      Chapter 1

      There was something about older men that Anastasia just couldn't quite put her finger on. Their maturity was an obvious advantage, she was a serious girl... Not a bore or a geek, just mentally mature far beyond her tender eighteen years, she didn't suffer idiots. Sadly for Anastasia, almost every boy her own age fell into that group. Frivolous, immature... shallow, those were the words that she used to describe boys in her own age group, at least in public, what she thought of them in private was a completely different matter and far less polite. But it wasn't just the maturity, there was something else about an older man, something that made the butterflies in her stomach flutter, a look and a smile would make her heart race, she felt the reaction deep inside.

      That was how it had all started, and it had signalled the beginning of the end.

      Recycling. It had been an option presented.

      Anastasia screwed her nose at the prospect. Her mother frowned.

      In this life Ana you take what is offered. Maybe it isn't glamorous, but it's a wage, and Harry didn't have to make the offer. And what's so wrong with recycling?

      Recycling! Anastasia snorted, He's a scrap man, recycling is just a fancy name to hide behind. He buys crap and sells crap, nothing more, nothing less!

      Her mother shook a weary head, she was close to despair with her only daughter. Scrap man or not... he has offered you a job, and jobs aren't that easy to get these days. He didn't have to you know, this is a favour for your father.

      So let dad take the shitty job, she replied, before lowering her eyes and sighing. Sorry mum, I shouldn't have said that. It's just not how I pictured my life would be!

      Her mother gave a small sad smile, maybe it was the name... Anastasia, the Grand Duchess, daughter of a Tsar. Could a name carry so much import, could it create delusions of grandeur? Possible she decided, although she loved her daughter dearly... she had to admit, she acted like a spoiled princess, and a complete and utter brat.

      Life doesn't always go to plan, she replied. "Do you think Dad wanted to end up working in that foundry, do you think stacking supermarket shelves was my dream when I was your age? Most of the time life sucks Ana, that's something you have to accept, but it can get better... so you take what's on offer, work hard, and wait for the next opportunity."

      Anastasia nodded, in her heart she knew
