    Chapter 1

Between the edges of madness and sanity , at the borders of order and chaos , lies the human being .Life is a constant negotiation of reality with one's senses . New and exciting experiences aren't viewed with great pleasure or enthusiasm .

I was clutching my fiance's hands hard , while also holding my feet firmly on the airplanes floor .

I Had my eyes closed and still I knew he was sleeping . I wasn't even mad at him , more like disappointed in my resolution , my nerves .

A week spent over relieving my pressures , reassurances that all would go well . That it's in the astronomical chances of any kind of bad incident to savage my vacation .

Looking outside myself . I should not be so much like a cat staring at a lion . I am thousands of feet in the air making a journey that would have taken days if not months barely a century past , was now over in three and a half hours .

The instincts of my beast , of that mythical creature , were on the edge of panic . Something knew and so alien to the beast , that it cannot comprehend . Or it could be the lack of control over its situation . over reality .

No I wasn't afraid that I could be wolfing out , in a metal can , filled with about hundred people . Maybe just a little . Honest .

My mother’s voice comes to mind , carrying those words we had on the week of preparation for this vacation . Don't worry about this , don't sweat about that . I remember her face in motion , assurances made by those thin lips . her round brown eyes not shaking . Trying , to inspire some modicum of confidence in myself . to dust away of dark from the unknown future with promises of fun , of the wonderful memories to be made . Made me feel like a little girl getting ready for some field trip . That's close comparison if you don't take into account the metal monstrosity that has me in its belly , right now .

Here on the edges of the storm and the quiet , it's very much a pain to think . To move forward .

There is no choice to be made here on how I should feel , then again some state of being aren't a rational thing . So we cast an anchor reality , an anchor made out of other people's words , or the calm firm touch of someone you trust and love .

If only he was awake to anchor me this moment .

The blame might be laid at my feet and my uncharacteristic haste , this morning .  sigh .

Are you holding it in? said the voice next to my left in almost a whisper .

A short and stupid what ? came out of my mouth .

You're ready to tear the arms of that seat . And your legs look glued to the floor .

Some other dumb word ripped its way free ready to smear my good name ohhh right .

The bathroom is right there he nodded towards the front of the plane . I think they are clean

Don't say that out loud I said to him in a whisper , without meeting his face I am just a bit flustered by flying .

Taking a piss in a bottle is gonna be a hard task here .

I nodded , keeping my blood from boiling of my face , than got up slowly and walked down the pass like some high wire artist walking on a rope that's been fasten between two mountains .

I fumbled at the door for a laughable moment than rushed in and got stuck trying to close it behind me . I was failing to understand the most basic of the closing mechanism . The more the seconds passed the more my grasp on reality slipped .

The door splayed open and I was confronted with an angry elder women . Her grey eyebrows furrowed . The wrinkles of her old age making deeper grim canyons all around the eyes . She flung some words at me but I could not catch them , language was hard to understand but her body’s energy and posture conveyed me her disappointment at my fumbling motions . She might have thought I was also drunk . Took some focusing and slowing down my breathing to form just one almost pathetic word : Sorry

She let me try my hand again at getting the door to closed , not without some parting words , met for herself . I eventually managed to close myself from the rest of the world and stare at my reflection just above the sink .

Shock swept over me as I noticed my eyes were of a bright orange , instead of the normal sky blue . and beyond them . Beyond me into the snowing landscape .

It has been some weeks since a snowstorm that bad , since I last worn in the hunter’s skin . The wolf was staring back at me , she was backed into the corner of my mind . Angry at me for ignoring her for so long .

You can’t find many times to go furry in this modern life of mine , unless you are into that kind of fetish .

I didn't want to revisit that form . The memories tied to it , my failures .

Accusations stabbed at my guts and made contents of this mornings modest breakfast jet its way down into the toilet bowl .

I splashed some cold water on my face than gurgled some in hopes of getting rid of the burning sensation inflaming my throat . I bared my teeth and took another look at the mirror . At myself at the hunter in me .

My blue was back in the irises , but my face seemed paler than usual , the long red hair frayed at the edges despite my memory disputing the claims of it being tousled right now .

I had the usual morning grooming session just hours past , like any other morning .

Get to the core of the problem I whispered with wavering conviction .

Flashes of memories like a badly put together movie , rolled its content , frame after frame across the mind's eye a bit too fast to focus on any particular one .

A ferocious bear standing claws stretched to the snowing skies .

Asha , my mother , holding me tight to her chest , sweet smell of tears on her face .

An almost twenty year old guy , an animal panic in his eyes , my claws reaching for his throat .

On their surface I found my furry face snarling with rage . Was I salivating after his blood ?

Five hundred pounds of sin was nibbling at the windows .

All I said was still on in .

    Don't eat me

Please , don't gobble up my soul .

The wolf came in , I got my cards

We sat down for a game

I cut my deck to the queen of spades but the cards were all the same .

Clear cold water washed my skin of any more fears and or doubt .

I existed the tiny bathrooms to go , without any complaints from nearby passengers and with a more sturdy stride made back to my seat .

You should watch a movie ! said Shaun .

What movie ? I asked , easing into my seat .

I think they are showing brave heart . You should open your eyes it's getting to the good bits .

Did she die already ? I said holding my face steady in both palms .

Their in the woods . the son of god is giving Mel his blessing . said Shaun with no hint of mischief in his voice .

Is his face painted or not ? I asked , still holding down a feeling of dizziness .

It’s close to the battle .

I guess I can take a peek at Mel Gibson .

He leaned into me , warm cheek touching mine , I opened my eyes wide and fixed my gaze upon the small screen  in the chair in front of me Gibson was having a talk with the one with crazy eyes , the one who talks with God .

I turned away having seen that movie once or twice before .

He needs some paint before his gonna take on the British . I told my fiance .

He's gonna need better insults than an ass in the air .

Isn't that the point of the insult ? I said . Risking a shot in the butt cheeks look at ass you're barely worth a fart ."

Come to think of it what better way to diss from a distance , then to show the bare ass . the middle finger might as well be an African swallow from such distances he said .

Do you think they also sent drawn asses to unwanted kings ? I mouthed the words the same time imagining grown man holding wide grins behind palms , while thin sheets of paper were passed around depicting badly drawn asses .

No , of course it wouldn't be a finely detailed ass on that paper , not even close . And still I laughed , and I smiled with him . The conversation veered through many points of cultural mishaps and poking holes in popular movies we saw this decade .

And the world fell away until it was required for us to be moving again .

    Chapter 2

I had all this weekend planned out , for the most part . All the stops and what to view , when to not sleep and dance or gaze at the stars . And by all the hell it will go smooth or else .

The accommodations weren't lavish , but then again I am not the queen of England , just puny editor on the lowest scale of pay . The important facts were I was here and have Shaun by my side , we were gonna enjoy what little time and small pleasure we could snatch up .

Was refreshing myself in the small bathroom of the room that me and my boyfriend rented for about a week . It was only a shower , not a tub , hmmm. It's all clean at least , even if it's a bit lacking in utilities .

I am having a migraine or something equally painful crunching on my head from all sides . Nothing a good cup of coffee can't fix I guess.

    Good morning sugar.

With a groggy voice Shaun said . He rubbed at his face to shoo the dreams away . That bright shapely face , clean and smooth .

Good morning precious . I am first in the shower .

You could share he snorted .

Nope . First come first served .

You are an ice cube on very heated morning. What's up ?

I pondered it for a bit and it all pointed to me rushing a bit to get the morning dose of coffee , and the fact that I made a schedule for us on this week trip .

Need to be fast precious . So will take turns .

Doesn't make sense . If we get in both will finish in double the time .

Not with that smirk on your lips .

He smirked with his shiny blue eyes holding back a mischievous thought , not quite awake yet .

Had a cold night ? he asked wiping away at motes of dreams .

Wake up too early Hun . I retorted slipping off my nightgown , my fair complexion shimmered in the morning light . I didn't close the door , took of my
