About this ebook

Grateful - and out of control

Little did Rick Chagres know his life could be so out of his precious control - or that he'd welcome it.  In the arms of Gabby Cooley-Burke, love becomes bigger than his fears, even if it was never a part of his master plan.

When their sons Will and Jeremy put their heads together, though, who knows what kinds of plots they'll hatch.  Will Rick put aside over-thinking and go along with their current scheme?  And what surprises does Gabby have in store for him?

From the Author:  What happened after THE END in book 3 of Flynn's Crossing, Naked Intolerances? The love story continues, of course! For Gabby and Rick, a relaxing late-summer jaunt to Lake Tahoe turns out to be anything but when their sons Jeremy and Will are up to their usual shenanigans. What can the boys possibly think of next? Read on and find out!

The Flynn's Crossing series is contemporary romance set in the northern California foothills, suspense driven by small town secrets, and complex characters in compelling stories about friendship and love. You can enjoy the books out of order without ruining their surprises!

    GRATEFULLY EVER YOURS

I am a grateful guy. Grateful, proud, happy, and –

    Dad, we should go fishing.

And the father, soon to be legally and officially, to not one but two sons.

So, Dad, are you taking them fishing soon?

At my side, my beautiful fiancée relaxes on a towel, the best looking and undoubtedly smartest woman on the beach. Lake Tahoe isn’t exactly a tropical location, but that doesn’t keep her from sporting a bright floral two-piece swimsuit that has no place getting wet in the icy cold water. I have a hard time tearing my eyes away from her.

Dad, fishing, please? My son by birth, Will, adds his plaintive question to the one earlier by Gabriella’s son Jeremy. A ring on her finger sporting a big diamond and two smaller ones. Adoptions in process. Wedding coming soon, I hope. A grateful, lucky guy.

    Come on, Dad. You’re stalling.

And evidently, going fishing in the near future.

Two almost identical postures of crossed arms and bare sandy feet settle in my view, blocking my vision of my soon-to-be-bride. They block the sun too, but then, kids are like that. They absorb all energy in the universe and unleash it when you least expect it.

Jeremy’s dark brown hair and deep brown eyes mirror his mother’s. Will’s black hair makes him look like a mini-me, as in me, except for the blue eyes he inherited from his birth mother. Thankfully, that’s all he seems to have inherited. Will and Jeremy may not look alike, but they resemble each other in so many other ways, you’d think they are twins.

Like now. Impatience shimmers in their wide stances as bright as reflections on the flat lake water. They’re even tapping a rapid beat with the same fingers on their arms as they wait for me, the clueless one, to get a clue.

Come on, Dad, Jeremy says, emphasis on the second word drawn out to about sixteen letters. I still remember the first time he called me Dad. He didn’t ask if he could, and I’m glad he felt secure enough to have the title simply pop out. He fell off his bike and skinned his knee, and it must have stung like the worst possible road burn. When I retrieved the navy blue metal with its bent front wheel, he’d
