      Boosts and Arbs

      One of the main promotions you will find during any festival and Cheltenham in particular, is the boosted price from bookmakers. This is where bookmakers will offer a price, for a limited time, far higher than they would normally. Very often, this boosted price will be above the one you can find at the exchanges. If you can lay the bet at the exchange below the boosted price it’s called an arbitrage bet or arb for short.

      You can either lay just enough the exchange to cover your bet to give yourself a big win if the bet wins at the bookmaker or you can balance your lay bet out so you win equally whether the horse wins or loses. I always lay enough only to cover my stake so I’m not out of pocket if the bet loses, but I make a bigger profit if it wins.
