I was a little kid in the 1950's. At first we lived with my mothers parents in their apartment. Sundays meant family dinners, aunts, uncles, cousins. After dinner my brother, my cousins and I would all go out to play. Sometimes we'd head to the Italian pastry shop for lemon ice. All my uncles and my father had fought in World Two, so I heard stories about their experiences from time to time. My mother told me stories about growing up during the depression, seeing Joe Di Maggio play base ball. I loved those old gangster movies and radio shows. I'd watch the Friday night fights with my Uncle Willie and he'd tell me about the boxers. It was a great time to be a kid. I wanted to put all of this into my story. I wanted to remember how things used to be when the family was together. Every Sunday, after dinner the men would play cards. I was fascinated by the way they shuffled the cards and the strategy of the games. Years later I would become a professional Magician. I studied with the great Italian Master Slydini. I re-learned Neapolitan, the dialect I heard growing up. For the past five years I've traveled to Napoli and performed while speaking Neapolitan, which I love. I hope to continue to write and perform.

Slydini also ‘table hopped’ a bit himself on those occasions, and this is where I got to see him perform this routine for laymen.
(At one point, during one of these Thanksgiving performances, Slydini was surrounded by a group of busboys who were delighted to find out he spoke Spanish. He did his Color Changing Card Routine for them. I call it a Color Change so magicians will understand what I mean, but Slydini did not perform it as such; in his hands, it was not a Color Change, it was a Card Vanish. At one point, one of the busboy’s reached out to touch the cards; another immediately slapped his hand away. He said: No, this is the Maestro!
)
The Pins were performed as either a prelude to another effect or placed in between two other routines. Slydini’s introduction of the effect was almost as long as the trick. The actual magic goes on for about a minute, perhaps a minute and half; that’s it. The pins are never offered for examination and once he put them away he seemed to forget about them. He was on to something else and the pins no longer existed for him. In the final phase of the routine he’d carefully link the pins and then said ‘now they are inside; right’. The spectator would immediately agree and Slydini would look confused, and even a little annoyed. I get so mixed up! Let’s do something else.
The pins which were so carefully and openly linked together a moment ago; were apart again and he seemed as mystified as his audience. He shoved the pins in his pocket and immediately moved on to
