Soulmate_search.com..! -Sure, It Was Not That Easy...!! - Uday Ranjan Dasgupta

    I

    JUNE 2010.

So, how do I say it?

Do I say I picked up my daughter’s partner for life from junk?

    Does it sound nice?

But that is the fact and it was fantastic.

My daughter is really happy and fulfilled today…

The boy, her husband, emerged as a gem of a man….

    Rags to riches?!

But absolute fact….a real life happening!

    You wondering??

Here is how it all happened!

The narration is all about the search for my daughter, Babby’s husband from matrimony portal on internet!

    Soulmate_search.com!!

And, it was sure not that easy!

Me, a mechanical engineer, you can say an upper middle class, having a moderately decent salary, assets like a house, a computer with broadband connection, a two wheeler, a car…oh yes, only a Maruti K-10 which I am sure to change shortly to minimum a sedan, with a long sleek ambiance, ‘cause the low priced smaller automobiles without sufficient luggage space at it’s tail, don’t really appeal me…those appear to me as handicapped…a rickety, dwarfed one!…The growth of it’s tail abruptly aborted….A sort of clown amongst automobiles!! And, I know for sure, this book of mine shortly will come out as a bestseller fetching me enough royalty to turn my dreams and passions to reality!

    … Why?

Because, right at this moment millions of people like me are online and busy searching soulmates for their own or for their off-springs or friends or kith and kin!

All of them, today’s well educated computer savvy prospectors, sure to identify themselves with this….Learn from this….sure to get enough how to go about it tips out of it….all the ‘does’ and ‘don’ts’…all at one place…! And together with a fascinating story!!

Will it not be a hit? A bestseller?

    You tell?

But, soulmate_search.com! It was no easy task!!!

And then, well, fetching the pearl out of the unfathomable depth of the ocean is never easy!!

Me, know me as Adyamnya…means one who is undaunted, cannot be suppressed or cowed down! I did my graduation in mechanical engineering way back in 1972 from B.E.College, Shibpur. Joined Bhilai steel plant, SAIL, in ’74, married in ’81, got my first daughter Babby in ’83…

And the story is all about how I got Babby’s husband from junk!!

    Through soulmate_search.com!!

And, I tell you, it was never that easy…

And you will see that here as I go...

Then where from I take you through all this?

Well we start from right here …

Babby came in our life in February,’83. I remember her as an infant baby in our arms ….Playing around…With two shinning bluish bright glittering eyes! During those days I used to call her my polar bear!

And then came that fateful day….She was then just 3 yrs old….I was in plant on duty….her mother was in kitchen….She was playing in the lawn of our quarter ….The misfortune struck us…Babby injured her right eye! Something sharp hit her bluish bright eye…the right one….

I remember the tragedy occurred in the evening just around the time I am back from plant!

I knew nothing about the dreaded incident! I still remember, while returning home, I had in my motor bike basket ripe mangoes bought for Babby and Tabby, my younger daughter, then only 3 months old……

I reached home…..None there….Got the news from the maid and neighbours….Rushed to our plant main hospital….

As I ran into the casualty of hospital…..I saw the scene that will ever remain framed, live and vivid in my memory….

Sekhar, my good friend, my batch mate and front door neighbour, was walking down the casualty corridor….my Babby in his arms…. Ipsita, my wife, walking weeping, looking like a mad woman, just behind …!

And then began all those long dark days and nights…Fighting…. Running….knocking all possible doors known to us to save Babby ….

That evening Dr. V S Bath of Bhilai Steel main hospital operated …. Repaired the corneal perforation under G.A…development of traumatic cataract…..Corneal stitches removed under G.A after about 3 weeks….. It left a small scar mark on right eye, corneal opacity, at 5 o’clock position!

And thereafter prolonged days of agony…..running time and again to Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai......Dr. S S Badrinath…..Dr. I S Roy, Kolkata….many more …Series of treatment….Pars Plata lensectomy, trial of contact lens, caretometry, VEP, ERG ….Retinal detachment in right eye….Scleral buckle ….Amblyopia…

And then THE VERDICT…….. Nothing can be done to improve vision in the right eye…

But, this was long ago …

We fought it all and fought it well …

Our Babby fought it even further better…..

Days, months and years passed on…

Babby crossed primary school level….She was not brilliant in academics...Just an above average one…

I noticed her, that accident, the awareness of having that eye injury, made her bit introvert, timid, shy…. Bright day light made her to shrink the affected eye for comfort ….her hands lifted to block the glare…!

I remember those days…in our house a room is made pitch dark …. Me and my Babby, just some three years old, bolted ourselves in…… Babby sitting at one end of the room, me on opposite wall …her good eye, the left one, blocked with a lid……me rolling down a ball slowly on the floor towards babby, putting spot light on the moving ball…..Babby, with only her injured eye open, trying to locate and grab it….we used to do this exercise hours together…. Tired and frustrated Babby sometimes cried, denied to do more……but after a break we again started….I kept repeating in my mind the doctor’s words….Amblyopia is the state of the eye that is anatomically alright, but functionally lazy…..if that eye is constantly forced to see, it can tide over it’s laziness, it’s vision may improve! ……A three year old doing this exercise hours together, days in and days out, in a close dark room!

Some days she was returning home from school with a sad grave face…. We knew some bully in class has passed remarks and taunted her for her deficiency…the injured eye!

We were getting choked….How to help my baby…..how to fight the odds…

I remember vividly how her mother, Ipsita, and my mother, her granny, were used to narrate and train her like a parrot how to take on, deal with those bullies …..

    Days passed on…

And to my utter delight I observed at some point of time Babby is transforming….So much tears and so many sleepless nights it took for the transformation…..

She started taking part in all kinds of sports; outdoor activities….and came out winner!

    She joined debating, quizzing, singing….

She learnt cycling; she made me to teach her motor biking…. In class nine I bought her a Hero Puch moped…. She, with her one eye, was driving it faster and better than all other double eyed ones! Far better than both her girl and guy friends!!

She made me to take her to Bhilai club swimming pool and learnt swimming quickly…..the scenes are alive in me …. I throw her in deep water…. She desperately trying to come ashore ….Fighting …. Accepting the challenge….Moving her tiny hands and legs in deep water ….Struggling hell to be out of water to reach the pool ladder… with her eyes red and gasping for breath …

In class ten she made me to teach her car driving!

A tall, slim, fare complexioned fifteen year old… was superb in all her performances…

I knew my Babby had decided to defy her adversity ….She has accepted the challenges in life and poised to fight up to it to be a winner!

I knew Babby has denied the adversity of being the odd girl out….I knew, She one day will stand high and different among the crowd!

    Days passed by….

After the twelfth board exam she got chance in engineering in both local colleges and in Jadavpur University (J.U)….

She wanted to go out….she told me, baba, for long you have guarded me…now, let me face the world…don’t worry!

And I agreed and convinced her mother to let her go…..

Babby moved to Kolkata to join JU for her graduation in engineering….

Four years passed by…Babby became a graduate engineer!

I found, during all these days she developed herself….She acquired leadership qualities …..

I saw, once the same hostel warden, who ridiculed and denied her a berth in college hostel in first year; had to give her hostel accommodation later and had to take her consent for any allocation as Babby, as an elected student representative in University student union, took a leading role in hostel allotment committee!

My Babby was standing tall and high!

Then she got job through campus interview in a software company and within less than a year shifted to well known MNC, CPW.

And in Nov 2008, she was sent by CPW to San Jose, California, USA, on onsite project!

On 17th Nov, 2008, she boarded from Kolkata a British Airways flight to Sanfransisco via London Heathrow!

And she landed there in Sanfransisco, California!

Her right eye could not put any hindrance to all these….!

And from then I started thinking now I must find out a suitable groom for her….

And my search started through matrimony site on internet…

But, soulmate_search.com!.....it was not that easy….!!!

    Hi Babby!

All my good wishes and blessings to you on my b’day!!

May you flourish like the flower PARIJAT (the flower of heaven) through out your life!!

Babby, mail me your office timing in San Jose times…..Also your working days there…. Is Saturday & Sunday both your weekly-off there? Most probably you will get your first office holiday in US this 27th Nov, which is Thanks Giving Day there! (For your info, it is celebrated every year there on 4th Thursday of the month of November!)

Babby, you will be glad to know that me and mom have brought your almost every possession from your Salt Lake flat! Only the partly used cosmetics in toilet, gadda[mat] and pillows and puja-table is left behind!! We have packed and brought the top you wore on last day, the black jeans you put on last day and threw to the floor, the grey and green kambal that you were using, the coffee-mug gifted by Antony and his last piece of (for the time being!) Eclair, that you kept in freeze!! All that you value and cherish is extremely valued to us! How can we leave those behind? We had total 12 piece of luggage on our return journey to Bhilai, after leaving 5 nos of bags at dps! Me and mom shared mom’s side lower berth throughout the night keeping all your luggage on my side upper berth!!! He hee heeee ……

Babby, you have mailed us details about your apartment….Now mail the detailed story and thrilling experience of a 22 hrs maiden international air dash to United States via London Heathrow…..start from the point we last saw you at luggage weighing point at Kolkata airport and end reaching Oakwood, your San Jose apartment …narrate all in details and also express your every feelings as those appeared in your mind from time to time aboard the journey!...we will love to go through that!

You have called Tabby….Make the call to didu at the earliest.

Whenever you get time …. Mail description of your life in America in minutest details possible! Tell us everything….When you woke up, how you breakfast, how go to office, what happens in office, when and how you come back, how you arrange tiffin in evening, what do you do at home, how you take dinner….what you are liking there and what you not liking….every….every possible thing…. We will enjoy those a lot.

And lastly always keep in mind who you are and what you want to be…..Don’t allow yourself to be carried away with the speed and material charm of American life……enjoy being in America, but always remember you are sent by CPW on a mission replacing many others…..fulfill that, excel in that, deliver to your company the best among all others sent there…..only this will help you to further grow and shine in future!!....Avail all opportunities and advantages of being there to further develop yourself……remain always with positive attitude to strengthen your attributes and acquire every thing good that you come across!

Sushree kaki was very cordial on phone to mom to tell that Minny was very happy knowing about your presence there in San Jose… they stay nearby….

Minny’s husband Avideep’s office is at San Jose only… Minny has told her mom that she will take you to their home on Sat-Sundays!! We will let you know Minny’s number…you may contact her to get a home away from home!!

Office has to reach by 9:30 am....regular timing: 9:30 to 5:30, max 6pm. Breakfast at Oakwood...some sort of sandwich and juice and coffee and tea. I have stopped buying juice these days!:)

Office has gym...people are not that formal and very comfortable to work with...

Every one busy doing their work......

Here every one greets the other....irrespective of whether knows the person or not..... In the early morning on way to office, even unknown people will say GOOD MORNING and from the car will smile and wave at you... It’s very common.

Every one smiles seeing you and wait’s for the door to open so that a lady enters first.......courtesy is followed...it’s a RULE!!!!!!!!!

And while crossing roads there are signal post which has buttons… you need to press it …pedestrian symbol appears and approaching vehicles stop....people on foot are God here......given the highest priority….!!!

Our building is huge...guess 16 floors.....my company CPW occupy many floors.....here every office is shared...... Roads are pretty and very well planned........there are roads where there is no signal and traffic runs smoothly.........

But there are no skyscrapers here......all are cottage type houses.........1-2 floor….it’s more like a country side........ Have not got an adapter yet......so can’t take pics and charge my camera......will get that soon........

Lunch is not provided at office......lots of resto and people manage that way..........

Am the only girl in my department, Quality Assurance (QA)..........

    Hi,

Had a meeting today from 10:30 am to 3 pm. All the stakeholders: Partners, designers, developers, QA people, auditors, content managers, lne people, etc were present. This tool, I mean the project am working in is synchronized in 14 countries...So people from various countries are working here...These people are very process oriented... It’s comparatively easier to understand work...they explained the need for the project, how to implement it, how it should look after implementation, users objectives, finance background as it’s an Assurance project and many more....There were many who joined the meeting via video conference... Many partners from various countries...It’s a completely new experience...

And there was this high quality lunch…jate amar kichu bhalo lage ni [in which I did not like anything!] And I ended up in 1 bun….! Lunch comprised of rice with all sorts of dry fruit’s in it, 2 chicken, 2 veggies: it seemed like they think humans are next to cow and can chew any green leafy veg…..2 more boiled veg, 2 puddings... Everything they eat is either submerged in cheese or too SWEET to digest... HOPELESS!!!! We are having a hard time...

There are many NAMUNAS [samples] here... Everyday there is a BLACK whom we meet at office gate....he a skater and comes to office in a skate and a woolen... Have you seen the movie Aflatoon... He resembles Akshay in it…even more funny....he, in absence of sun, wears the darkest shades.......Amit gets so angry seeing him and invariably, without failure,

    he greets Amit........FUNNY NA!!!

You know, here the window glasses are cleaned from outside with people on big stands with life belts….the way we did rock climbing at Matha in Purulia....mine is 16 floor building and it’s so nice watching them cleaning the glasses whole day.........TECHNOLOGY is AMAZING here!!!

I got my Citibank a/c….and everything is done in 20 mints...also got pin... People work so fast....and always smiling …

We will get 4 days holiday for Thanks Giving......everyone is planning for a trip...let’s see how things takes place... I have been allotted my cubical and my group has 2 Americans: one took my interview before coming and is very good looking and one Indian: Mahendra...There is a funny lady who whistles very very good....told me that she loves to whistle and sing and if I can’t join her I must stop her...she is old and cute!!!!!

    Ohh!!!!!!!!!!!!

Today I got one more lappy.......so, ami second lappy ta chain die bendhe rekhechee [kept the second one tied up with a chain!] India CPW te desktop pawa jai na! [In CPW, India, even getting a dedicated desktop was difficult!] And here I have 2 lappys....life is strange....when we need things, nothing comes our way....and in other parts those are surplus! Also got one bagpack and that made me really happy: D

Yesterday my friends went for dinner after shopping... I stayed back home....didn’t feel like going.....sabe to 3 din holo [only 3 days I have come here!]... I felt it not ethically good:)

Now am going for gym....it’s very cold...got chilled while coming from office....that’s all for today......no more updates....

Yesterday there was a sudden plan... We, 14 of us, including 4 girls and 3 wives:) went to REDWOOD FOREST....it’s far off...the roads leading to BIG BASIN as they call it, is a hilly road and no lights on roads...every turn is blind!

The road gets narrower at every next turn....the trees are 400 feet tall and aged more than 1000 yrs...it’s a lovely place...we could not explore the forest as it was already dark....

The best part I liked were the bikers....here in hilly areas we get to see lots of bikers... They have a HUGE physique and the sound of their roaring machines can be heard from a long distance...they come and vanish in the air in the wink of an eye....it’s something worth watching.....we met even a lady biker....the tyres of the bikes are very much comparable with Indian truck tyres and the bikes are in it’self HUGE........loved it...

Then we lost our way back to city...and with the help of GPS came back......

Next we went to a Malaysian resto and had dinner.....was very tired and even today is....!:)

Have not shared the pics....once I get all the pics, will forward to you…… Thursday and Friday we have holiday and Wednesday is early closing.... we will go shopping on Friday morning at around 4 am and Wednesday evening planning for Los Angels...

Let’s see…will even go for a tour on Sat and Sunday...let’s see what matures....

    Will keep you informed.........

    Take care

    Hi!

What a marvelous outing was it!

Wish we were there with you!

I have heard the name Big Basin... But had no idea how exactly it is! I just now visited on internet the Big Basin… wonderful!

Mamma, I can visualize in my imagination the beauty of the site!.....ROADS GETTING NARROWER AT EVERY TURN!.... 1000 YRS OLD AND 400 FT TALL TREES EVERYWHERE!........it reminds me of my tour in my early youth to remote jungles and hilly terrains of tribal Bastar on motorbike and then simply on foot in to the mystic Abujhmar Hills, which perhaps is one of the last of India’s uncharted territories, the habitat of Maria & Muria tribes!!

Sure, yours REDWOOD was a fantastic ever unforgettable experience!! And those dangerous ruthless bikers and their devastating bike-machines!!....read about them in many books!!.... You have come across them in reality! How lucky are you!

You having great days!! GOD is great!! Keep it and the spirit up!

    Here, all fine.

Tabby landed in Delhi. She had also a terrible trip.... Did horse- riding in stiff cliffs of mountain from Vaishno Devi to Bhairo Baba temple with eyes closed in fear!!

BHAAB, KI ABASTHA [think, what a condition!]!! Yet to hear details of her experience and feelings in the Vaishno Devi tour.

    Love.

    Will sleep after some time…

I was knowing my Babby was living life….High in body, mind and spirit……but deep in my mind a thought was always there…I am to get her a match well compatible to a girl like her….And she have that one handicap……the right eye!.. I knew I am to explore the matrimony sites in net and newspapers……but will Babby agree…I had a fear in my mind…….With the high degree of self-respect and self-esteem she has; will she agree to post her profile in matrimony sites and work along the line with me …….!
