I am a retired Photography Teacher, Refugee Settlement Manager, and Builder. For the past 10 years, I have been teaching part-time, writing books, taking photos and doing lots of research.All the books I write come from experience and research. Yes, in my life so far I have worked with refugees, taught art, built houses, studied herbs, and health. Introduction
I love teaching. I love my students and I love finding new ideas that improve my teaching. This is how I teach. My curriculum is adjustable, changeable and always in a state of change because teaching from a book, one book, doesn't work.
Everyone wants to learn conversation, especially listening to and understanding English speakers. The best way to do this is on your own is to build your vocabulary by reading books, especially children’s books, with a dictionary close by, watching movies, reading the newspaper and talking only in English.
When teaching I always use Total Physical Response (James A Asher) it is a technique that quickly develops your listening vocabulary. Any techniques that give opportunities for students to understand what you say and respond are essential.
My favourite ones are TPR, Flashcards, Toys, CAT, Ball6, Fantastic Phonics, Explode the code, Zoo, CONVO AB, Conversation cards, TPR Story Telling, Genki English, and Hidden Pictures. All of these work well and after teaching thousands of students I have had time to improve how I teach them. They all can be improved on and added on to, which gives me a great feeling of satisfaction knowing I am getting better all the time.
