About this ebook

Deadliest Enemy: Our War Against Killer Germs by Michael T. Osterholm: Conversation Starters

'Deadliest Enemy: Our War Against Killer Germs' is a nonfiction book by epidemiologist Michael T. Osterholm and critically acclaimed author, Mark Olshaker. The book discussed how deadly the microscopic pathogens are and how they wreaked havoc across the world with many new emerging epidemics and pandemics.
With diseases such as Ebola, MERS, Zika, and the recent COVID-19 that spread like wildfire, the authors have cautioned time and again that humans together need to create the resources and programs to keep humans safe from pathogens. The authors have provided a critically essential and updated guide detailing the various disease-causing germs and solutions to tackle them.

Through all the recent years, one or another deadly virus has emerged and created several health issues worldwide. The 2020 edition adds the deadly COVID-19 virus to the list, which is wreaking havoc and has already led to severe fatalities.

In the preface to the latest edition, the authors argue that each of these took the world by surprise when, in reality, they shouldn't have been able to. Gauging the patterns of the various outbreaks of the recent past, the authors argue that the worst is yet to come. They predict that an influenza virus, which could be far more lethal and catastrophic than the coronavirus, is bound to affect the world in the future.
