The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is a spinoff and a prequel to Suzanne Collins' well-known trilogy, The Hunger Games. It talks about Coriolanus Snow, who is known as the president of Panem and the main antagonist in The Hunger Games trilogy. In this book, an eighteen-year-old Coriolanus Snow has been chosen to be a mentor to the tributes for the upcoming 10th Hunger Games. Mentoring a winning tribute is his goal to secure a scholarship to the University because his family has lost their wealth during the Dark Days. However, it seems that the odds were not in his favor as he was assigned to mentor a female tribute from District 12, which is considered as the lowest of the low.

Introducing The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is a prequel of The Hunger Games, written by Suzanne Collins. This story revolves around the life of the eighteen-year-old Coriolanus Snow, known as Panem's dictatorial president in the trilogy. In The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, Snow is just a teenager when his family faces the brink of poverty. He was chosen to be a mentor for the tributes during the 10th Hunger Games. Snow grabbed this opportunity because he would be able to secure a university scholarship as well despite living in a penthouse of the most lavish apartment building in the Capitol, Snow and his family struggle. However, most people still think that Snow and his family are doing well. On the day of the reaping, Snow was worried about his outfit as it may not be fancy as the others, and they could not even afford to buy a new one. His cousin, Tigris, has helped him with his clothes for the reaping ceremony. Before that, Snow has been considering calling in sick or back out from the event, for he was concerned about his appearance. Fortunately, Tigris was able to find a way to make Snow's outfit classier and fancier. The reaping day is an important event for Snow as he was expecting to achieve personal recognition. Being a mentor in the Hunger Games was Snow's final project before graduating from the Academy
