LIFE MASTERY LESSONS
CHAPTER ONE
A JOURNEY DOWN MY LIFE
"Life is a journey, filled with the good, the bad and worst, but the important aspect of all this,
are lessons learnt, it is upon you to either choose to enjoy the experience of life!"
As we journey through life, our journey will either act as a blessing, a lesson, or a regret. But never regret the journey, or feel guilty for the encounters you met, because those encounters will teach you what you need to know, not what you want to know.
I grew up in a village, called Mosu in the central district. This is the place where I would say I spent most part of my life. I was raised there and I schooled there, both my primary and secondary schools. This is the place where most of my childhood memories are.
There is this African saying that goes, "It takes a village to raise a child", and having grown up in this small village, I would say, it truly represents this saying well. We are who are and where are today because of the love and support we got from the village elders.
Mosu is just a small village like most of the villages in Botswana. This did not stop most of us from having bigger dreams about our lives, and I always held a bigger picture of my life. This is because I believed that in life, it doesn’t matter where you come from, if you believe it, you can become it just from the humble beginnings.
Growing up, there were challenges I have met. In this journey called life, as you go through it.You are going to encounter certain challenges, ups and downs. I met them as well on this journey and somehow, because of my strong belief I managed to push through them.
Our family backgrounds sometimes might be one of the contributing factors to our success or failures. In my case, having been raised in a middle-class family meant that, there were things which we couldn’t afford. The little we could afford made a huge difference into our lives. We enjoyed every moment gave to us. This moments brought in powerful life lessons that contributed to who I am today.
The challenges that life putted onto my life, taught me that, I should never take life or anything for granted. At first, I thought it was a curse to come from a small village with nothing famous about it, or coming from a not rich/wealthy family. That was my definition of being successful. That for one to be successful, one has to come from a rich family or a bigger village.
Things started to change when I shifted the way I used to see life and define success. I realized that, no matter where you come from. You can achieve everything you set your mind and attention to. And it doesn’t take where one comes from, to be successful. This alone, taught me to take life serious and never take it for granted.
Life taught me some lessons at a very early age. I had no option, but to welcome them. I remember it very well, after finishing my high school, I had to go back to Mosu. That was the true real experience for my life. I thought it was easy outside, believe me, that was a lie in my face. This means that, I had to do things for myself. The financial help that my parents used to offer during my schooling days stopped. I had to change, and see how I was going to make sure I survive.
Through all this I met different people who taught me one or two things about life, my eyes started to open up, even the way I did things changed. I am grateful for the people who either had an influence in my life, for they taught me an eye-opening lesson that, ‘For things to change I have to change!’ as put by Jim Rohn.
Today as I share with you my journey through life. It was not easy as one might see. Coming from humble beginnings but still holding on to my dreams, still hungry for more. I faced disappointments in my journey. As human being, at times we expect more out of life, but did nothing on our side. That’s where the shift is needed. I met failures and I still meet failures in my life, to me, that’s where lessons about life lies. I got disappointed by people I thought they were my friends, but at the end of the day, I learnt to be me.
Now I want to share with you some few words about this journey of life. As you journey through, you will meet people. They will disappoint you at times. You will meet failure, at times you will feel you are just a failure, but you are not. You will try things out, go to school but still fails, that’s not the end of you. You have a greater potential to be who you want to be.
I like to say that, never regret the experiences or the people you came into contact with. Those experience/people will either test you, teach you, use you, or show you how not to do things .Be sure to look out for the good one though. The ones that inspires, they’re the ones who will walk into your life, when others have simply chose to walk out.
I believe that any great journey starts with one small step.
As a child, I wasn’t aware that life is a journey at all .I never asked myself the bigger questions of life, "Who I am?, and What value I’m bringing to this world?’ Those to me, never existed in my life. The shift I noticed at an early time, forced me to dig deep, to find the true person I represent to this world.
I realized that when every day passes, we age up, when we age up, we lose ourselves. This means the person you and I used to be today, might be a totally different one tomorrow and in the five years to come. So the most important time is now, and it never waits for any folk.
When anyone takes a first step. It’s a big achievement. Progress happens when we begin the little steps. But to do that, we must be aware of things. So many opportunities are missed because we don’t see, understand or read signs. Life gives out a command every day. So if you don’t program your mind, life will program you. So how do stay on top of your game?, how do you keep yourself up when difficult times are knocking on your door?
We need motivation, commitment and focus. All of which are completely valuable, but we also need the persistence so that we don’t give up at the first hurdle. Without persistence, it is easy to give up on your life’s journey.
Whatever form our persistence, it’s allowing ourselves to be lead, which leads to progress, both on a personal, emotional and spiritual level. Life isn’t one strength round, it turns and drips in the rough, it will always be inevitable. The outcomes we expect to happen, don’t always happen the way we want.
We must be prepared for all the responsibilities and that’s what life’s journey teaches us. We must be prepared. Not everyone will agree or respond to what you do, in a way that you want or think they should be. Understanding your journey teaches you a lot about yourself. This is where using our intuition helps. Intuition allows us to identify our own mistakes so that we change the way we perceive and do things. This should help us on our life journey. Same thing happened to me, when I learnt that I too, make mistakes, and realizing this helped me into making or correcting those mistakes, that’s the power of INTUITION.
Eric Thomas would say, ’Things change for the better when we take responsibility for our own thoughts, decisions and actions, now I ask you this,
What journey of life have you walked/ you are walking into?" Are you able to keep going when situations are pressing hard on you? Our journey is for us to make and master it, never be compared to that someone else. Our journey may take a long time, and for others it may happen almost immediately. What matters is that we will finish, not where we stand or where we’ve come from. As one door closes, another door opens. Other doors may close, those doors were never meant to stay open. But for the door that close, keep looking to find ways to open more doors. The message is simple," OUR JOURNEY IS FOR US TO MAKE AND FINISH, JUST DON’T GIVE UP."
‘Success is not for the weak and uncommitted…sometimes it’s gonna hurt!"
- Dr Eric Thomas
CHAPTER TWO
WHEN THE DREAMER DREAMS!
If you stop dreaming, you stop living
-Vijay Eswaran
Dreaming is the single most important aspect of success.
The minute you stop dreaming, you stop living. The minute you stop dreaming about who you want to be, what you want to do and what you should be, is the moment when you stop growing. So in my perspective, dreams are part of growth. They are part of every person’s DNA. Every one of us is born a dreamer. But it is those who take action towards their dreams who got to see the reality of their dreams.
All great things start with a dream. That single dream you may be having right now in your mind has the potential to change your life. I like to describe dreaming as a process. This is because I believe dreams give you the map of where you are now and where you want to be. Therefore, between where you are now and where you want to be, is what I call the process.
In the process of you dreaming and becoming who you are. There are going to be sacrifices that you are going to pay in order for you to reach the outmost potential of your dreams. It’s either you are willing to put your all in the process of realizing your dreams or not.
Willingness is another important aspect of success that will help you reach your dreams. Every great thing that you see today started off as an idea. That idea turned out to become a reality because someone was willing to push and make an effort. Only those willing to make necessary sacrifices will eventually reap the fruits of their dreams which are success.
A lot of questions arises as your pursue your dreams. I have some of this questions but for now, let’s stick to this one question. The question which stuck me for a long time, before I decided to intentionally follow my dreams. I always asked myself, ``What are you willing to
