The Power of the Word - Dr. La Tonya D. Mouzon
you!
Introduction
This book demonstrates God’s great love, grace, and mercy toward me during a time of testing, proving, and victory. In this book, you will find a journey of faith. God called me to a place where the only thing that could satisfy Him would be my complete faith in His ability to sustain and deliver me.
Sometimes in this life, there are some things that we just can’t do anything about. We don’t have the power on our own to overcome them. There have been many times in my life that all I could do was trust God. In 2007, during the course of nine to ten months, God took me on the ride of my life. That ride was awesome!
He showed up mightily and strong, working out all things on my behalf. God has not changed. He is the same. The Lord desires to continue doing great and mighty exploits for His children today. He desires to heal, deliver, make whole, and set free today. God wants to work greatly through signs and wonders. He is just looking for willing vessels through which He can work.
This story explores the might of God’s hand upon me through the path of breast cancer healing. You might not know the experience of breast cancer, or even a health challenge. However, I dare say that my encounter can be an impetus toward building your faith to believe God for many other things. God is able to move any obstacle that hinders your progress toward destiny and purpose in this life. Each of us has a purpose and plan that God predestined for us.
The enemy comes to try and prevent us from fulfilling that purpose; by bringing trials, stumbling blocks, broken relationships, mishaps, setbacks, setups, battles of the mind, broken dreams, offense, and many other distractions. Sometimes those stumbling blocks seem insurmountable. I have written this book for anyone who is facing what seems to be an impossible situation to remind you that God is able! He can do anything but fail.
I pray that this book will encourage you to believe God to bring you out of your impossible situations and into the place of destiny and purpose. That through it, you will hunger for God to move in greater ways through your life and the lives of others. Laugh with me and cry with me as you read what God did through me. Then, use this book as a tool to share in the goodness of God. Begin to stand on God’s word and watch Him accomplish it in your life. I know God as a healer, deliverer and a mighty battle axe. It is because I stood on His word. God’s word is infallible. It does not fail. So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.
(Isaiah 55:11, NKJV) What do you need God to do in your life? Have you stood on His word? I dare you to try it. Watch what He does.
Every person mentioned in this book is real, but names have been changed to protect their privacy.
Chapter I
What is this?
I remember the day like it was yesterday. It was Monday, August 6, 2007. Teachers reported back to work a week prior. That first week flew by. It was a bit stressful, but it was manageable. I was going along and getting my classroom ready for the students. I was excited about the possibilities of an awesome school year, but I was exhausted.
It was approximately 10:00 p.m. All of a sudden, I noticed that something was different. I was in the shower. I was doing a routine check of my breasts. There was a very large lump. When I felt it, I thought that this was the scariest day of my life. I started to panic. Where did this come from? What does it mean? What will I do? Is this what I think it is? What doctor can I call? I am not from here. I do not know what to do or who to turn to!
All sorts of things went through my mind. Here I am a single mother. I have this 11-year-old daughter. She needs me. I need to be here for her. I cannot be at the end. Who will take care of her if I am not here? How will she get along in this life? Like I said earlier, she needs me.
Then, I began to talk to myself. Yes, I was talking to myself. I said Relax, calm down.
You don’t know what this is. Don’t jump to conclusions. Just call Pastor Hopper.
Yes
, I told myself. That’s what I will do. I will call Pastor Hopper. She will know exactly what I need to do.
I called and she answered on the second ring. That was unusual. It generally takes three to five rings before I get a response. Hello daughter
, she said. I said Hi.
I was not my usually happy self. There was a tremor in my voice. What’s going on?
she asked. I said, Something is wrong.
She paused and asked, What is it, what’s wrong?
I said, I don’t know what it is.
I began to explain what had just happened. I was in the shower. I was doing a routine check of my breasts. Then I found it. There is a lump in my breast. The right breast is where I found it. What do I do?
Well
, she calmly replied. You are not going to get in to see a doctor right away. Call to make an appointment to see a doctor. Starting tomorrow you are going to go on a fast. Fast and pray; seek God while you wait for your appointment date. Get your bible and find all of the scriptures on healing that you can. Write them down. Then find all of the scriptures on peace that you can. Write them down. When you are at work and you start to think about what you are dealing with, I want you to take those scriptures and read them out loud to yourself. They will help you stay focused on what you know God can and will do for you. You know what; I do not feel like this will be a threat to your life. Make sure you get those scriptures written down and carry them with you in your purse.
She gave me a few more encouraging words and we hung up.
I certainly had my work cut out for me. I mean, I had some serious work to do. I was just given a laundry list of things to do. I needed to get started right away. Just searching the bible for scriptures on healing would take a great deal of time. I did not feel like it, but I knew (in my spirit) that I was facing a giant. The Word of God would be my proverbial 5 smooth stones against the giant I was about to face (1 Samuel 17:40).
I don’t know about you, but I don’t always do what I should do. But I started on that fast immediately though. That was excellent advice. I knew that. I was just so nervous when I found the lump that I could not think straight. I gave myself an unlimited time frame. I was willing to fast until. Until, what? Until I heard from the Lord about His will in this particular situation. There was nothing I could do without hearing from God first. This was a situation that required God’s input and I knew it. I was not going to see a doctor, take a pill or do anything else without knowing what God was saying about this lump in my breast.
I called my gynecologist’s office; told them I found a lump that needed to be checked. They scheduled a mammogram for August 27, 2007. I had two weeks to seek God. Two weeks before I would know what was going on. Two weeks before I would be able to breathe freely. TWO WEEKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I did not waste any time. I got started right away. I began to seek God’s throne immediately. My heart was turned toward God. I needed to have answers. I needed to know exactly what to do. This was a situation where I could not afford to turn to the left or to the right. The only
