Three main definitions
- Skill Models (EI)
- Mixed models of (EI)
- Feature Model (EI)
Skill Models (EI)
It is about "the ability to perceive emotion, to integrate emotion to facilitate thinking, to understand emotions and to regulate emotions to promote personal growth".
Mixed models of EI
This is the model introduced by Daniel Goleman that defines EI as a wide range of competencies and skills that drive leadership performance.
EI Trait Model
The EI trait is "a constellation of self-perceptions related to emotions located on lower personality levels. The EI trait refers to an individual's own perceptions of his or her emotional capabilities, as opposed to the capability-based model that refers to actual capabilities. However, the assessment of actual abilities has proven to be very resistant to scientific measurement, so the reality is that there may be little to choose from among them.

Introduction to Emotional Intelligence
––––––––
In general terms, Emotional Intelligence (EI) refers to the ability to perceive, control and evaluate one's own and other people's emotions.
EI is a relatively new area of study. Its first roots go back to Darwin's work on the importance of emotional expression for survival. In the 20th century, the issue of intelligence was discussed mainly in terms of cognitive aspects such as memory and problem solving, although several influential researchers had begun to recognize the importance of non-cognitive aspects.
In 1920, E. L. Thorndike used the term social intelligence
to describe the ability to understand and manage other people.
The term emotional intelligence
is often attributed to Wayne Payne's 1985 doctoral dissertation, A Study of Emotion: Developing Emotional Intelligence, but media interest was only sparked in 1995 after a Time magazine article on Daniel Goleman's bestseller, Emotional Intelligence: Why It Can Matter More than IQ.
Peter Salovey and John D. Mayer have been the leading researchers on emotional intelligence ever since, defining emotional intelligence as "the subset of social intelligence that involves the ability to monitor one's own and another's feelings and emotions, to discriminate between them, and to use this information to guide one's thoughts and actions.
Several different models are currently proposed for the definition of emotional intelligence, and researchers still disagree on how the term should be used. Some think that emotional intelligence can be learned and then strengthened,
