      GIFT-GIVING

      "You know it’s Christmas Day in the human realm, and we are elves." Austin, who lays beside me in bed, smirks, his eyes twinkling with mischief. 

      I hadn’t thought about us like that before. I mean, technically, he’s right. Neither of us is like the elves running around wrapping presents or putting gifts under the tree or anything like we see in Christmas movies in the human realm. But still… True, I say, rolling onto my side and scooting closer to him. Our bed is enormous. It’s easy to get too far away from each other when we’re sleeping. What did you have in mind? We finished celebrating our biggest gift-giving holiday of the year last night by hosting a ball. There was great music, magic, dancing, and all sorts of delicious food. Aren’t you tired? I thought we’d spend the day in bed. 

      Well, my lovely wife, he pauses and brushes some hair off my cheek. I’m not opposed to that either. He pulls on my thigh, so it’s resting on his hip. 

      Desire tingles throughout my body. How I love him. We’ve been married for nearly a year, but my intense need for him hasn’t lessened. If anything, it’s intensified. Austin’s eyes darken as he leans up on one elbow, letting the covers fall, revealing his gorgeous chest. 

      Wysteria. I need to talk to you. It’s my friend, Leva, outside our bedroom door. Her tiny voice is urgent. I might be imagining it, but even her wings beat insistently. She’s also on my council. If she’s here this early, then something must be wrong in the kingdom. 

      I’m still new to the job as Queen of the Elves, but it hasn’t been so bad with Austin by my side. Just a minute. I sigh internally as Austin nuzzles
