FOREWORD
I want to grow up and become a social worker because I know I can help the world and make a great living doing it said no one ever. We all were born with some dope gifts and developed a few passions and that tends to be the path we take unless life derails us, as it most always does.
We then choose paths on the pursuit of greater fulfillment. Changing people’s lives and circumstances is one of the most mentally rewarding jobs and careers one can have, but why doesn’t the pay match? I mean if we’re doing some of the hardest and most vital work in the lives of our clients and making our agencies beaucoup cash why are we stuck in the hustle?
Many of us have contemplated changing majors, leaving the field and switching careers in order to make a living. Others work two or three jobs to keep a roof over their head and the lights on. We either make it through this thought process and time of struggle or we close the chapter on that story.
In this book, Author Dhaima Chin, not only speaks about what she was doing before the universe told her that she needed to make a shift, she also describes what the process was like in the making. Following her purpose wasn’t the easiest thing to stick to as life knocked her down and kept swinging, but her determination took her to where she wanted to be as she continues to grow.
Dhaima is by far one of the sweetest, kind hearted, thoughtful and giving people that I have ever met. Our very first interaction took place on a cruise to Cuba for my first book launch, just a few days shy of one year ago. She was very quiet, reserved and literally stayed glued to the friend that she came with. As time went by, I saw her open up and soak in what was going on around her. She came home and hit the ground running to start her practice. She does so much for her community and has a passion for helping others, especially those who are social workers. A few months after we initially met, Dhaima aka Dee Dee, signed up to get a mentor through the Black Therapists Rocks Mentorship Program. As the Director of the program, I wanted to make sure she was matched with someone to suit what her goals were. She wanted to grow her practice, write a book and continue to help people pass their LCSW exam. I said to myself, I can help her with that. Let me see if she wants to work with me or be assigned to someone else.
I then reached out to her and as I suspected,
