    Plant the Seed

    Go to Lane, Son! It’s a great school!" Throughout my high school years, my father, who attended Lane College in Jackson, Tennessee, proclaimed the name of his school with pride and still does to this day. Lane College is a small, dynamic, and growing HBCU with over 1,200 students. While at Lane, he played lead alto saxophone in the marching band and still speaks about those golden years with a glow on his face. He still loves Lane and attends homecomings.

    My father’s passion for his school was so palpable that it planted the initial seed within me to attend an HBCU. So, of course, Lane College was one of the schools I considered when making my decision. My only issue at that time was that Lane was only one hour away from my hometown of Memphis, and I desired a slightly larger campus that was a little further away from home. So, I considered other
