Like her Kentucky Oaks win and being named the American Champion Three-year-old Filly in 2018.

You may remember her Breeders Cup Distaff wins in 2018 and 2020.

And for those who are new to the horseracing industry, may just remember her being named the American Champion Older Female Horse for 2020.

But for most, the names of her ancestors like Seattle Slew or Secretariat don't come to mind. And this is not due to a lack of remembering but simply a lack of knowledge.

In this book, we will look at the amazing pedigree of an amazing racehorse.

We will track her bloodline back to Seattle Slew and Secretariat, and her amazing career right up to her 2021 racing season.

Secretariat with Jockey, Ron Turcotte, Groom, Eddie Sweat and owner, Penny Chenery - 1973

Many people know Secretariat from the 2010 Walt Disney movie, Secretariat

But Secretariat’s life is more than just a Disney movie of a racehorse.

Secretariat was foaled in Doswell Virginia in the early morning of March 30th, 1970 at Meadow Farm. Secretariat was sired by Bold Ruler from Somethingroyal.

In an attempt to save her ill father’s farm, Penny Chenery left her life in Denver, Colorado.

Despite her family’s suggestion of selling off the farm and just walking away, she stayed to attempt and save what she could of the farm.

Penny acquired Secretariat in a coin toss when they were dividing up the potential offspring with mares bred to his sire, Bold Ruler.

Penny at first was unsure if the foal, Secretariat, would ever be a winner.

Secretariat’s trainer, Lucien Laurin, was ready to retire when he joined Penny, soon clinching five of six consecutive Triple Crown wins between Secretariat and his stable mate, Riva Ridge.

Ron Turcotte, Secretariat’s jockey for his Triple Crown wins, grew up in Canada working with his father as a lumberjack.

The story of Secretariat and his team fascinated the country over the horse’s career as a two and three-year-old.

Together, Ron Turcotte and Secretariat won all three races of the Triple Crown in 1973.

The last time this feat was accomplished was 25 years earlier by Citation who earned the title in 1948.

Ron Turcotte and Secretariat were breaking track records in each race that still stands today.

On May 5, 1973, they won the 99th running of the Kentucky Derby. Secretariat was the first horse to ever win the Derby in under 2 minutes with a
