About this ebook

I came here for a do over, but the past has a way of repeating itself. It torments me, playing over and over again in my brain.

Nothing can stop the memories.

Not until I see her.

Everything changes the moment I see her delicious curves and pouty lips. But it has nothing on the haunted look in her eyes.

I want what I can't have, but I never was good with rules.

From USA Today bestselling author, Yolanda Olson and Abigail Davies comes the beginning of a thrilling forbidden series.

Corrupt - Yolanda Olson

Part One

Jayden

Chapter One

I let out a tired breath as I struggle to get my eyes to flutter open.

It was strange and wonderful to have finally been able to get a little bit of sleep—for the first time in a while. But as I lie here wondering if it’s worth getting up at all, I know that I have no say in the matter.

Today is the first day of school and I spent almost the entire night writing in my diary, which is part of the reason why I’m feeling a bit groggy.

I wanted to remind myself of Mr. Ridley and the reason he’s not welcome back there.

I had to remember that it wasn’t my fault—no matter what Momma says—and the only way to make things seem more real than they are sometimes, is to write them down.

I caught him, but I kept his secret like I promised I would. Yet, when the truth came out, there wasn’t a soul who believed me.

On one hand, I was taunted and teased. On the other hand, I was loathed and despised.

Neither side of the argument really bothered me; I’m used to being in the epicenter of all the mixed, unwelcome feelings constantly hurled my way.

I rub my tired eyes with the palms of my hands, stifling a yawn at the same time.

I don’t want to get out of bed yet, but I know I have to, or I’ll be late for school. And that’s something Momma won’t be happy about.

Turning onto my side, I push my sheets off and glance down curiously, a little more alert than I was a few seconds before. The insides of my thighs feel warm and wet and I’m not entirely sure why.

My heart begins to beat rapidly when I see the traces of red. I sit up instantly and scurry up against the headboard when I see the small pool of … blood? Is that blood?

I clamp both hands over my mouth to muffle the sob that escapes me almost instantly. Am I dying? Is this my punishment for what happened to Mr. Ridley even though it wasn’t my fault?

With shaky breaths, and tear-stained cheeks, I slowly shuffle toward the edge of the bed, get to my feet, and look at the pool of crimson on my normally crisp, white sheets.

There’s no way Momma won’t see this and when she does, she’s going to take the belt to me. She’s going to accuse me of doing things that I shouldn’t be, and she won’t believe me when I tell her she’s wrong.

After all, Momma is a grown-up and I’m still growing—she knows more than I do.

My breathing comes in shuddering waves as I stumble backwards until my body is firmly placed against the bedroom door.

Calm down Jayden. If she hears you bumping around the room, she’ll knock the door down to find out what’s going on.

I take a deep breath and move quickly, pulling the sheets off my bed and bundling them into my arms. A glance at the bedroom window tells me that it’s still
