About this ebook

Around the age of sixteen, poet Zeinab Arjah fell upon great emotional turmoil. She turned to religion and found comfort in her faith, but she also turned to the written word. She posted many of her verses online in the hopes of reaching other people facing similar troubles in an effort to say, You are not alone.

Artificial Life, written over the course of two years, is a collection of her emotionally charged poetry. Each poem reveals a different level of darkness and sometimes light. Expressing good times or bad, her poems reverberate with the human condition, as weve all felt passion, love, friendship, and even the terrible pain of loss.

Her words are lyrical and filled with imagery. She speaks to the difficult reality of life and seeks to find hope even in the darkest of times. She bridges the gap between actuality and the realm of imagination, but even in the most fantastical of phrases, Arjah pursues the path of living a life filled with joy and peace.

Zeinab Arjah

Zeinab Arjah found that, other than turning to God, writing helped her cope with her troubled thoughts. Later, she decided to be more creative and take poetry to a whole new level by writing about things in her imagination, as well.

I have always wished you were here to keep me company.

I also wished you were here to make me feel less lonely.

Every time you were close by me, I sensed the feeling of being a little more alive.

Then after you left, I felt like an iceberg for a long while.

When you took the first step out of my life,

I couldn’t imagine myself without you

Despite all the fighting we endured that night.

If only I could hold onto you so tight

To unveil how much I really love you inside.

It’s been a while since I’ve called you with all my passion

It was ugly to witness that you weren’t into my fashion.

My fashion for you was giving love through hidden expressions,

But your idea in fashion was giving love through breaking hearts and ego impressions.

I told you to be patient, and it’ll be just fine,

But you left me out of your mind,

    Way behind.

    How could you even dare

To throw everything I left aside?

How could I be such an idiot to fall back into your eyes?

Baby, I should have learnt the first time I fell outside your mind,

But you just blew me away with words you knew you were able to bribe me with.

And yet I believed every word that came out of your mouth.

And because I’m such a fool,

    I can’t forget you.

    I can’t leave you

    Or hurt you.

I believed in love at first sight,

But now as we reach the end, I’m starting to feel that nothing is right,

Knowing that love is made to break us

    And we are put on
