About this ebook
As we live in one world in which our lives intersect with one other, any positive change in your life will inevitably affect others lives positively as well. It is a great service to render good for yourself first and the world second. In Let Them Grumble, I have displayed some of the backward causes to the lack of individual effectiveness in third-world countries. I call these the seven habits of the most underdeveloped and least effective people. I also include some of the stereotypes that have controlled our thinking for years and have hindered many people from realizing their dreams. Let Them Grumble is a battle for freedom in which our ammunition is courage. So get ready to burn your boat, stir up your courage, and let the critics grumble.

Introduction
Let Them Grumble is my second book. In my first book, The Price of Freedom, I tackle authoritarian personalities in our social lives, including our families and friendships, and the passive effects of such personalities on the individual and community. I include the causes of dictatorial behavior, methods to deal with it, and ways to keep oneself from becoming an authoritarian person or a victim. The Arab Spring came as a massive, real-world lesson on this behavior and its destructive implications, as those involved paid the price of freedom. That movement inspired me to complete my march to help others, this time through acquiring an important human value necessary to achieve effectiveness, success, and development: the value of courage. Every truthful, honest, and effective person has this value.
In life, we sometimes experience hard conditions that weaken our existences. They may even destroy us if we lose hope for change. So if we want life, we are obliged to motivate our courage; otherwise we will confront death. This idea reminds me of an important historical anecdote (which also inspired an exercise in this book).
When Tariq Ibn Ziyad and his army faced attack on the sea from their enemy, he ordered his men to burn their boats. "O people, where would you flee? he said to his men.
The sea is behind you and the enemy is in front of you. By God, you have nothing but truthfulness and patience." This story is significant, because sometimes we need to burn our boats to motivate the courage to confront our fears. Leaders of countries need this kind of courage, for example, to develop their countries (as in Dubai, Singapore, Turkey, and Malaysia) or to recover from catastrophe (as happened in Japan after Hiroshima). But you need this type of motivation, courage, and enthusiasm in your personal life, too, both to improve your life and realize your goals and to get out of a dilemma or danger. Our lives today require burning our boats. We are afflicted with laziness, excessive speech and controversy, and weakness of conscience and vitality. Sometimes we are indulged in pleasures, playfulness and hurting loved ones. Other times we get lost in fear until we drown in the sea of underdevelopment and ineffectiveness.
This is not the nation that Prophet Muhammad and his companions struggled to build, bearing a diverse array of harm and deprivation. Islam is peace and morals.
In the following pages, I will review some of my opinions. But as opinions are not static, I may change my mind on some in the future. So do not take all that I write as firm facts. I am still searching daily and changing my convictions. My searches only increase my confidence, pride, and glory in a religion that truly appreciates all seekers of knowledge and wisdom. Yes, I love and I am more attached to God the more I learn, read, and research.
This is a cultural and intellectual journey, which I want you to enjoy. It is a liberal, intellectual journey without guardianship you must take alone. Through this journey, you will discover the seven habits of the most underdeveloped and least effective people. In addition, you will courageously face fears that are relevant to deep, limiting beliefs, and facing these will direct you, with a pure intent, to God to upgrade yourself and achieve world peace.
May God help us!
CHAPTER 1
We Are Organs in the World’s Body
I read a lot of modern Western books that search for the secrets of the universe and the Creator Almighty. The authors search for truth by traveling to both the Eastern and Western regions of the earth. Only a few of them think of coming to Muslim countries to find the truth. I feel sad for the lost opportunities to propagate this great religion. I can understand their reasons, though, as they have not heard about what they search for as coming from Muslim nations. These are countries and communities that are exhausted by humility and instability that regularly witness a lack of noble values, and in which justice is marginalized.
I would like to draw your attention to the fact that Islam is not Muslims. Islam should be learned from the Holy Quran and the teachings of Prophet Muhammad. Some Muslims are not a true reflection of Islam. Because of them, the Islamic nation seems to be a contradictory one. A nation that relies on systems of guardianship, fellowship, and continuous monitoring. A nation that is afraid of change and fears what is different. A nation that consumes much and produces little, that talks a lot and works less. In my reading, I found that what little authors do conclude or mention in their books is rooted in our neglected Islam. Yes, I say it is neglected. Its magnificent spirit, beauty, and values are neglected. It is confined to the field of the permitted and forbidden (halal and haram), in which spirituality is lost. In this way, our effectiveness as individuals is diminished, and the individual’s role in renaissance is marginalized. We do not like to exempt ourselves from responsibility, but we participate with uneven degrees in what happens in our realities.
We do not like to marginalize the importance of the individual’s role in affecting
