    ABOUT the AUTHOR

    LYME DISEASE IN HORSES

Lyme disease in my horse patients was (and is) a constant source of frustration for me and my clients. Working in an endemic area of this disease means the probability of seeing cases in some kind of routine basis. In my 25 years of practice, the diagnostic tests have changed, as well as how to best handle and treat a horse suffering from Lyme disease. Poor response to treatment, expensive treatments, and repeat infections were common.

I began to look for answers. Research done on Lyme disease in humans, horses, and dogs has been used to compile this book. I am happy to say we appear to have a much better understanding on the disease today and how to handle cases.

Please enjoy this collection of facts, research data, and experience. There will be better diagnostics, better preventatives, and a better understanding of case management in the future. For now, we are getting great results with the information contained in this book. Please do not hesitate to contact me with your questions or thoughts – Lyme disease is a hot topic for so many affected horses (and people!).
