The School of Truth: Practical Helps For The Overcomers, #6
()
About this ebook
Every Christian who has believed in Christ and received Him as Lord and Saviour must enroll and make progress in the school of the One in whom he has believed and Who is "the Way, the Truth, and the Life." Genuine conversion should lead to a radical end to sin and a radical commitment to the Truth.
In this book, Z.T. Formum shows us how he himself cooperated with God to root out all lies and falsehoods from his life. It exposes, through characters from the Old and New Testaments, the manifestations of lying in many practical aspects of life.
It is a burden borne and deposited to produce a deep love for truth and a deep hatred of lies and falsehood in the church.
This book is a must-read and recommended to stir the conscience of every believer to the fact that one of the qualifications to be an overcomer alongside the Heavenly Bridegroom is to have a mouth in which no lie is found.

The Overcomer As A Servant Of Man
The Psalmist cried out to God,
Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward being; therefore teach me wisdom in my secret heart
(Psalm 51:6).
This book is about the School of Truth. It is about truth in the inward being. It is about truth in the secret heart.
There is much falsehood in the world today. Even in the Church, truth is lacking. This is a most serious lack, for it hinders God enormously. God cannot do anything useful through a person who claims to be regenerated and yet continues to practice falsehood in one area of his life or the other. No one can truly practise the truth in one area of his life while deliberately practising falsehood in another. Falsehood must be abandoned completely and radically, and the truth must be embraced with the total man - spirit, soul and body. Truth thus embraced will flow from the spirit to the soul and then to the body, and from the body it will flow out.
What most believers need today is to cry out to God as the Psalmist did, saying,
Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within me
(Psalm 51:10).
That cry comes from hearts that have seen falsehood for what it is and are desperate to get right with God and remain right with Him. Such will cry out and continue to cry out until God has done that which only He can do to set them free. While they cry out and continue to cry out to Him, they will co-operate with Him by recognizing all the falsehood in their lives, confessing every lie, forsaking every appearance of falsehood, receiving a cleansed heart from the Lord, and carrying out the needed restitution. In this way they will enrol in the School of Truth and, as they abide in the Lord and continue in that School, more and more will be shown to them, leading to deeper repentance, and more and more will be done in them, bringing them into greater conformity to Him who is the Truth, even our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

INTRODUCTION

GENERAL INTRODUCTION
The Bible says of the Lord Jesus,
He committed no sin; no guile was found on his lips
(1 Peter 2:22).
The Bible also says,
For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps
(1 Peter 2:21).
Those who are indeed His, follow Him into the School of Suffering. They also follow Him into the School of Guilelessness.
There will be a company of people in heaven: the Bridegroom’s special companions. One of their qualifications is that in their mouth no lie was found. The Bible says,
Then I looked, and lo, on Mount Zion stood the Lamb, and with him a hundred and forty-four thousand who had his name and his Father’s name written on their foreheads. And I heard a voice from heaven like the sound of many waters and like the sound of loud thunder; the voice I heard was like the sound of harpers playing on their harps, and they sing a new song before the throne and before the four living creatures and before the elders. No one could learn that song except the hundred and forty-four thousand who had been redeemed from the earth. It is these who have not defiled themselves with women, for they are chaste; it is these who follow the Lamb wherever he goes; these have been redeemed from mankind as firstfruits for God and the Lamb, and in their mouth no lie was found, for they are spotless
(Revelation 14:1-5).
Who are these people? It seems to me that they are the true believers. They are the overcomers. True believers are the overcomers. True believers are spotless The Lord is to present a Church unto Himself in splendour, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing,
a Church that is holy and without blemish
. These one hundred and forty-four thousand (I believe the number is only representative) possess the qualification of that Bride - the Church - which is spotless. That which is spotted is not the Bride, for who would accept a dirty bride?
Another aspect of the matter is this: The Lord says to the overcomer,
I will make him a pillar in the temple of my God; never shall he go out of it, and I will write on him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem which comes down from my God out of Heaven, and my own new name
(Revelation 3:12).
The one hundred and forty-four thousand had His name and His Father’s name on their foreheads. Are they not the overcomers?
Then there is the fact that these special companions of the Bridegroom have been redeemed from the earth from mankind, as firstfruits for God. Who constitute the first fruits unto God? I believe that the overcomers constitute the firstfruits. The overcomers are guileless. They are spotless. We shall concentrate on the aspect of this truth that has to do with no guile being found in their mouths. This is not to say that the other aspects are not important. It is just that we must handle one thing at a time.
We write this book with a special burden. We fear that many professing Christians are fake. The lying, deceit, falsehood and hypocrisy that have invaded the so-called believers make one wonder if they ever were truly converted. Genuine conversion should lead to a harsh termination with all sin and a radical commitment to all the truth. That is what the Holy Spirit produces in the hearts and lives in which He has come to dwell. Where lying, hypocrisy, deceit and falsehood exist in a life, might the reason not be a spurious conversion? We are on the ‘eve’ of the Lord’s return. Those who are His are labouring for that holiness without which no man shall see the Lord. They are given to the pursuit of that holiness. Nothing can satisfy or comfort them as long as that holiness is absent. They press on relentlessly. They know that the Bridegroom is spotless and that He will not accept a spotted Bride.
We believe that genuine conversion produces in the heart a burning, a hunger, a thirst after holiness. Those who know this
burning,
hunger,
thirst,
should press on. Those who do not know it and are contented with lying, falsehood, deceit, hypocrisy, can continue. They have never belonged to Him. They do not know Him.
If you hope to see the Lord someday, the Word of God says to you,
Every one who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure
(1 John 3:3).
If you are truly God’s child, the Holy Spirit is labouring in you so that this purity should be produced. He is purifying you. Co-operate with Him and purify yourself. That is part of the evidence that you are His.
2
THE AUTHOR AND THE BOOK
I have been writing this book for nearly one year. As I wrote, I found areas of falsehood in my life that needed dealing with, with God and with man. I, therefore, stopped to have the issues thus raised, settled properly. I must confess that I did not know that there was so much lying and falsehood in my life until I began to write this book and God began to make things clear to me. I have been exposed. I have repented. I am repenting and I will continue to repent. I see quite clearly that the problem is my heart. Although I have known something of the sanctified life for some years now, I have to confess that my heart is corrupt and desperately wicked. I do not know any lie or falsehood in my life now that I have not confessed and forsaken. However, I know that that is not the end. It is actually the beginning. It is my enrolment - my registration - in the School of Truth; for the enrolment in the School of Truth takes place when all known lies are confessed and abandoned and the heart is yielded unconditionally to the Lord in all the truth that shall be brought to light.
Enrolment in a school is not the same as graduation. That is why I can only say that I am committed to walk in the truth - to speak the truth at any cost and to expose all falsehood. However, I know that the Holy Spirit, in His love for me, will continue to sanctify me by showing me hidden lies, falsehood, hypocrisies and the like, that are in my life, and enabling me to hate, confess and forsake them.
After I had been working on the book for nearly three months, I found it necessary to write the first set of eighteen prayer topics and pray them through before the Lord, giving all the details that I could to Him in private prayer. I was then able to go on writing for the next four months. After that, I was not able to write more. I needed to face myself before the Lord. He opened my eyes to see my heart as I had not seen it before. Again, there was repentance, confession and restitution. I was again able to write for another two months when again the Holy Spirit caused me to stop writing. I again went before the Lord and He enabled me to see my heart at another level and I was horrified, broken and repentant. I wrote the third set of prayer topics and, as I prayed them through, He dealt with me and brought me to the liberty with which I could then go on and complete the book. I am including the three sets of prayer topics here; for they are an integral part of the book. You will realize that they are general. However, they were not prayed through as general issues. At each topic I waited on the Lord for the revelation of my heart and the exposure of the details. I then repented, calling every lie or falsehood by name and begging for forgiveness and cleansing. That is how it has been.
You will wonder why such a small book has taken such a long time to write. The truth is that I had expected the book to be written in one or two months. However, as I started, I found myself exposed. I could not write for others what I had not bothered to work out in my own life. Therefore, I can say that the book has been written more with my heart and life than with my head and pen.
Now that the book is about finished, we commend it to the Lord Jesus, the One who never lied, the One in whose mouth and heart no falsehood was ever found, and we plead that He should use it to produce a deep love for truth and a deep hatred for lying and falsehood in the Church. We pray that He should use it to prepare those who will be His special companions; for in their mouths no lie was found.
We send it out with a heart’s cry that having enrolled in the School of Truth, we be helped by Him in our utter weakness to make rapid progress; so as to be soon numbered by Him among those in whose mouth no lie or guile would be found.
THE AUTHOR’S COMMITMENT TO TRUTH (TRUTH, HONESTY AND TRANSPARENCY).
Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward being; therefore teach me wisdom in my secret heart
(Psalm 51:6).
For the Lord sees not as man sees; man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart
(1 Samuel 16:7b).
"Lord, I must be true, honest and transparent, just as You are. Lord, enable the following ‘musts’ of my life to take immediate effect:
I must have no secrets.
I must have no secret reserves.
I must not think any thought that I would not want exposed to the whole world.
I must not write any word that I would want to hide from anyone.
I must have no secret ambitions.
I must not have any relationship that I am not prepared for all to know about.
I must not go to any place where I will not want any single person to know that I went there.
I must not let anyone think that he is to me what I do not hold him in my heart to be.
I must not give a part of the reason for something and leave the other part out and, thereby, let people read into it what is not true.
I must not say anything in a way that it makes a greater impact than it ought to.
I must not say that I have done something which I only intend to do.
I must not give the impression that something which is purely imaginary is real.
I must let people know that illustrations are not reality.
I must not give people the impression that I love someone or something that I do not love.
I must not give the impression that I have been delivered from something with which I am still battling.
I must not hide the fact that I love someone or something that I truly love.
I must not expose my strong points.
I must not hide my weaknesses.
I must not confess a sin to God of which I have not repented and taken a radical decision to be separated from.
I must not ask God to deliver me from a sin or relationship from which I do not want to be delivered.
I must not tell God that I love something that I do not love.
I must not tell God that I hate something that I do not actually hate.
I must not do before people what I will not do in their absence.
I must not do anything I am not convinced of just to please anyone.
I must not give the impression that I agree with something that I do not agree with in my heart.
I must not repeat a story that was told me since I am not sure that I will remember every bit of it, and since I may tell it in a way that creates an impression that is different from that which was created by the one who first told me the story.
I must not make any promise that I have not settled in my heart that I will keep.
I must not exaggerate the faults or failures of anyone, regardless of who he is and what he has done.
I must not talk about people who are not present, since I am not sure that
