      Annie couldn’t help but stare at the couple. They were so poised and oozed strength when they helped her friend during delivery. Now their image was in the paper with the other couple. The two alpha male twins mated with two strong independent women.

      Part of Annie envied the women and their firm back bone as she sipped at her sugar rush coffee. Her boyfriend always criticized her need for so much sugar, then bad mouthed her size.

      You’re too fucking fat, you need to lose the damn weight, or we’ll never work!

      His words filtering into her mind, and she winced, then glanced, around glad to not see him right now.

      She adjusted and tried to push the negative thoughts out of her mind.

      The day her best friend delivered her baby—or pup—her boyfriend, Nathan, had changed drastically. She didn’t understand the change. He’d become obsessed with her weight, even though he had some body fat as well.

      Pot, hi, I’m the fucking kettle.

      She blew out a breath then took a long swig of her coffee, feeling a little better.

      It was like he wanted her to be thinner, or at least closer to Reyna’s size, the first alpha female. Yes, the beautiful woman had some curves, but she hid it well with her fancy clothes.

      Annie looked down at the little pudge in her stomach area, hating the self-loathing that rolled up in her mind. Every hateful word never came up before Nathan… He planted the seeds and she allowed them to grow. She wore a pair of pink leggings with a floral design and a purple top. The colors clashed a little, but she had dressed in the dark, hoping not to wake Nathan.

      What the hell are you doing? You should be working out right now! Nathan stormed into the kitchen and Annie jumped off the stool to face him, then twisted the paper to hide the image of the alphas. Every time he saw them, his mood darkened.

      I was just getting ready for my day. She adjusted her feet as he inched closer. He wore a pair of black running shorts and a tattered t-shirt with holes in random places. A sheen of sweat covered his face as his beady eyes locked on her. He reached around and snatched the paper from the counter.

      What are you looking at here? He adjusted the pages, and his anger grew as a scowl lined his face. Why are you reading about these… these… His nostrils flared, and she tried to back up, but the stool was in her way. She fumbled and landed on her ass. Pain shot up her tail bone, but she kept scrambling back, needing space.

      Why had he changed so much? Maybe it was time to leave this relationship. She didn’t have a job though, relying on him for most of her basic needs. Stupid move, Annie, giving him control over your life.

      He took a few steps her way, hunching over her, and her heart leapt into her throat.

      These guys are filthy beasts. They don’t deserve to breathe the same air as us. She blinked a few times. Her best friend was a werewolf. Or was he just talking about the alphas?
