About this ebook

"As I journey, I journal". From my Caribbean Island home in Jamaica, the poems and expressions in this book are written as a coping strategy I used to navigate the high and low flow of life. Inside this book, I express my emotions, thoughts and feelings in varied literary styles. My hope is that you will gain inspiration and motivation as you engage with the expressions.

Rhythm Rhyme & Reason - Marcia Crawford

    MOTHER MAY I

Mother may I tell you how dark it is inside here,

but still I see the light  as I move about

    in this bubble of love.

    ––––––––

It's been a while since we've been connected by this cord,

that sometimes get tangled around my arms and legs

especially when you must do the washing, cooking

    and all that stuff.

    ––––––––

Oh mother, may I tell you how I long to see your face,

to feel your love and warm embrace.

Eight months is a long time, but you told me yesterday

    that the time is near.

    ––––––––

Mother may I help you...bear the pain

Just one more hard push and I will be there.

My lungs fill with air I cried so loud

to sense your breath on my tiny nose.

My mother may I. tell you how happy I am to be here

to feel your love and your warm embrace.

    ––––––––

The years go by so fast and now I can toddle around,

pushing and shoving objects all over the ground.

Mama, I want to tell you how happy I am

but the words are muffled, and you wouldn't understand.

    ––––––––

Mother may I tell you, this place is lush and green

with sugar cane fields as far as the eyes can see.

Hills and valleys I see each day

but still, I long for your warm embrace.

    ––––––––

    I am now old enough

the law says I can make a vote

    it seems only yesterday

you helped me into my clothes

    ––––––––

I look out there and what do I see

a big bad world that really scares me

mother may I see you in the

strength I need to navigate this world

    of endless possibilities

    ––––––––

I've now been blessed with two of my own

they are gifts from God on a short-term loan

I vow to love them endlessly

until they return from whence, they came.

I AM JUST LIKE YOU DAD

    Your eyes, your nose

    Your thick full lips

    Melanin rich, that's almost black

    I'm just like you dad

    That's what mama said

    ––––––––

Are you a kind and loving man?

Do you run when things go wrong?

Or do you stand and face the storm?

    I need to know.

    yes, I need to know

    'Cause mama said

    I'm just like
