CHAPTER 1

Kole Winterclaw was a god among the wolves of the Blood Moon Pack. As alpha heir, he was powerful, gorgeous, and of course, every she-wolf in Moon Valley wanted to screw him. Except for me. I huffed out a breath and tore my gaze from the alphahole, forcing myself to focus on the lecture instead of the group of girls fawning all over him.

My stomach churned, nausea clawing up my throat at the sight. What the hell was that about? I’d been taking classes with Kole for years now, and I’d never cared how many stupid girls drooled all over him. He wasn’t my type anyway—too ruggedly handsome with those blazing golden irises, dark wavy hair, and stupid cleft chin. Not to mention the totally unsexy scar across his dark brow.

Worse, there were two of them.

Kole had a twin, Knox. The Winterclaw brothers were total assholes, much like every other arrogant male I’d met since my arrival in wolf territory.

Four years ago, I was torn from my human home and tossed into the supernatural world of Azar. Thanks to the Half-Blood decree, all humans of mixed origins were required to hone their special abilities in Azar, which was divided into territories by species: vampires, shifters, dragons, Fae, etcetera. I currently resided in the shifter realm of Marlwoods, or more specifically Moon Valley, lupine lands.

Turns out, my mom had an affair with a wolf back in the day, and bam… seventeen years later, I was forced to delve into my roots. Thank the gods I only had one semester left of college, and I could finally return to the human world. Because spoiler alert, despite being half-wolf, I never shifted.

Which kind of made me a pariah the last four years.

Even my biological father and his pack shunned me. Harlan Devereaux of the great Blacksnout pack would never win any father of the year awards, that was for effing sure. He put the D in deadbeat dad. When he wasn’t drunk, he just ignored me, confirming the rest of the pack’s opinion of my loser status. So everyone avoided me like the plague.

Fuck them all. I didn’t need these overgrown dogs. I’d be back home in the human world in a few short weeks, and the past four years would be nothing but a bad memory. Now, I just had to figure out what I wanted to do with my life once I got back.

A book slammed shut, spinning my gaze over my shoulder. My eyes landed on a pair of familiar amber irises. My heart stuttered, and I sucked in a breath. No scar across this male’s dark brow. Rumors were that Kole had gotten it by taking out the alpha of a rival pack.

But the same cleft chin, same wide jaw and wicked grin stared down at me.

Knox Winterclaw, the other brother.

I still wasn’t clear on how things worked in pack hierarchy, but as twins, Knox had gotten the shaft. Being born a few seconds later had robbed him of the coveted alpha heir title. Instead, the best he could ever hope for was beta. Unless something unfortunate happened to his twin. Which I’d heard wasn’t impossible. Wolves were ruthless when it came to a chance at becoming alpha.

Sorry, he mumbled.

Huh? Gods, I was so eloquent.

For scaring you? With my book? He ticked his head at the textbook on his desk.

Oh, right. Nah, I’m good. I’d learned keeping my head down was the best way to survive around here. Of the two brothers, Knox seemed nicer. He’d even bought me a coffee once, my first day at Moon Valley U. My eyes drifted closed, and my thoughts traveled to that day almost four years ago.

Dammit! I stared at the puddle of coffee spilled across the cement, and tears welled in my eyes. It was irrational, I knew, but that was my last gelder, and I needed that hit of liquid caffeine to survive my first day on campus. My first class had been horrible. Werewolf 101.

No matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t get my damned she-wolf to emerge. You’re a half-blood they said, your wolf must be controlled they said. What if I didn’t even have
