    Preface

Backstories from Heaven is a collection of stories from the life of a fictional character, Ms. Lena Payne, following the events of Revelation Chapters 19 through 22 of the Holy Bible. It is this author’s intention to give an account of what the new heaven and earth may be like in all of its wonder and to share of the redemptive power of God. The premise of the story is believed to be true by millions and millions of souls around the world who are yet alive as well as those who have already entered into eternity because it is based on the Word of God. This fictional account is in no way intended to add to or take away from the true and faithful Word of God and is a story based on the imagination of the writer who admits that she in no way can express the beauty and magnificence of the Lord our God even with all that is contained in the Holy Bible.

    Chapter 1

    The New Beginning

Iwas sitting and talking with my guardian angel, Evona. So when I was going to kill my husband, was that you who wouldn’t let me get up from the floor? I asked her. Being in my now glorified body in eternity, I knew the answer already, but I loved to hear her retell the story over and over again.

Okay, I’ll retell it again, she said with a smile. Some time ago, I looked up and saw the very man that I was once contemplating murder upon appear onto this new earth from far off. He had been visiting relatives who were before the Lord Jesus on a trip to Mars. Many people wanted God to create a vacation paradise of sorts on that planet (unfortunately, I have no other words to describe what the planet would be as we were already in the new heaven and earth—paradise, heaven—but God made man creative and willful). That man who had been my ex-husband, Julius, could only wave; he was still in awe after being in the presence of the King.

Ahem—Evona cleared her throat—you and he had one of your usual arguments, and he had snatched the phone away from you and rolled up the cord as you were about to call his mother, as usual, so that she could come to your rescue. He stormed off and went into the bedroom, and you slumped on the floor crying, feeling hurt and angry. Then, as the Enemy sends them out to do, a lying demon told you to just get the butcher knife, go into the bedroom, and put your misery to an end, Evona recalled. I remember having visions of peace after his death. I somehow thought that my life would instantly become better after that man would be gone. That lying demon told you that everyone knew you two argued all of the time, and that he often came storming out of the house in a rage. Well this time, everyone would think that something worse must have happened and you had to defend yourself. That lying demon showed you what it would look like to chop and slice through his flesh, and how good it would feel to cut at him the way your heart felt so many times when he would reject you and give his time and attention to something that he thought was more important or better.

I couldn’t help but interject, almost giddy like a child. Now, tell me your part and how the Holy Spirit intervened.

Playfully rolling her eyes, Well, God is greater than Satan and his demons and gives us charge over his children to protect and to guide them as He pleases, Evona said in that echo voice that permeates every time the angels speak of God; that sound still gives me chills. It’s like mini-echoes dancing on air. The Holy Spirit intervened. He spoke to you in his quiet, sure voice and told you, ‘Don’t do it, think about your life and your children, calm yourself and pray to the Father.’ Of course, you didn’t want to. You were ready to kill but you needed a moment, and that’s when I did my job and stood between you and the lying demon to give you a moment of clarity and to block his instruction.

I am so glad that I listened to the Holy Spirit, I said, in the same amazement that I had every time I heard the story.

Yes, you needed a moment. What that lying demon did not tell you about was a life in prison, the hardships you and your children would face, and the many experiences that you would have missed if you had murdered Julius. Not to mention he had not been saved at that time. What would his eternity have been? But you had victory because you obeyed God and said no to what you really wanted to do at that moment, a moment like many others that had the ability to alter the entire course of your entire life, depending upon the choice that you made.

Wow, that blows my mind how every detail of our lives was altered by all the other moments and choices, I said, still amazed at God.

Yes, it is amazing how all the events in human lives worked. Evona stood up to leave, she had to go before the Lord to worship. There was a time in my life that I hated all of the preparation in getting ready for church, I remember wasting time deciding if I was going to put forth the effort to go, then the additional time that I wasted in debating with myself about what I would miss if I didn’t go, and then getting there and being so distracted with my own thoughts that I missed the benefits of the worship service and had to struggle to tune in to the sermon. What a waste of time! Had I known in those days that the right to worship God was going to become a privilege, I would have appreciated the blessing of freedom of
