      Don’t skip ahead: The stories in this book are arranged in order of increasing difficulty, allowing you to gradually build on your language skills as you progress through the book. As such, we strongly recommend not skipping any stories, as each one is designed to challenge you slightly more than the one before it.

      Read regularly: Make a habit of reading in English on a regular basis. This will help you to build up your vocabulary and grammar skills over time.

      Take notes: As you read, take notes on new words and phrases that you come across. You can also note down sentence structures and grammar rules that you find difficult to understand.

      Practice speaking: Use the new vocabulary and grammar that you have learned in the short stories in your conversations with other English speakers. This will help you to internalize the language and improve your fluency.

      Sci-Fi Vocabulary

      alien (noun): A creature from another planet.

      beings (noun): Creatures or lifeforms, often used to refer to intelligent life.

      colony(noun): In sci-fi, often refers to a settlement or outpost established on another planet or moon.

      comet (noun): A celestial object consisting of a nucleus of ice and dust that, when near the sun, has a tail of gas and dust particles pointing away from the sun.

      cosmos(noun): The universe or space, considered as a complex and orderly system.

      earthlings (noun): Inhabitants or natives of the Earth, often used by extraterrestrials to refer to humans.

      extraterrestrial(adjective): Originating, existing, or occurring outside the earth or its atmosphere.

      galaxy (noun): A system of millions or billions of stars, together with gas and dust, held together by gravitational attraction.

      gravity (noun): The force that attracts a body toward the center of the earth, or toward any other physical body having mass.

      hologram (noun): A three-dimensional image formed by the interference of light beams.

      interstellar(adjective): Occurring or situated between stars.

      light-year (noun): A unit of astronomical distance equivalent to the distance that light travels in one year.

      meteorite (noun): A piece of rock or metal from space that has landed on Earth’s surface.

      multiverse (noun): The hypothetical collection of potentially diverse universes, including the one in which we live.

      nebula (noun): A cloud of gas
