About this ebook

Thoughts and Letters is a collection of poetic lines and narratives by a Filipino author. This short collection of literary pieces is a creative juice squeezed from an ongoing pandemic. The sociopolitical-themed entries contained in this debut work made manifest the author’s generous effort to mirror the realities of his time and serve as an invitation to journey with him in not-so-known, sometimes neglected, packets of collective history—both in the Philippines and of being human.

These poems and narratives trace humanity at the core of history, delving into experiences with a passion too vibrant and thundering to be kept mum.

Thoughts and Letters is an invitation to introspect as well as a challenge to expand one’s horizon to different terrains of becoming human.”

    About the Author

    Foreword

Annie Dillard in her book The Writing Life speaks about writing as laying out a line of words. This line of words is like a miner's pick, a woodcarver's gouge, and a surgeon's probe. Dillard elaborates a bit more: the words that the writer chooses become a path to follow that would eventually bring the writer deep into new territory.

Thoughts and Letters is exactly, as Dillard describes, our author's exploration of new territories—different topics and themes yet unified by the same passion. Abbreviated perspectives and compressed thoughts are attempts to capture big ideas and vast realities.

Where the author comes from is an important context that our readers should start with. All text after all has a context. In fact, without context, no text would really mean anything. This context is an interweaving of cultural complexities that intersect with political experiences, existential imaginations, and spiritual distillations. And in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic—an event that has brought humankind to the brink of its powers, Thoughts and Letters—this work of art, of an author's expressive imagination, is
