      Prologue

      In the late 1940s, my grandparents Robert and Julie Mayfield (second marriage for both) left Michigan and purchased a seven-acre property approximately two miles (3.2 kilometers) east of the Ohio-Pennsylvania border, which was surrounded by farms. There were acres and acres of corn growing everywhere. There were also some farms that produced milk.

      The children from their first marriages were grown, and Grandma and Grandpa were now eager to start a new life together in another part of the country in the state of Pennsylvania.  Grandpa would often refer to Pennsylvania as the Land of Milk and Honey.
