Description

Read along to practice your English and to learn the English phrases TO SCHOOL SOMEONE and TOO COOL FOR SCHOOLIn this English lesson, I wanted to help you learn the English phrase to school someone. This is a slang phrase, and it means to totally dominate someone when you're doing something together, usually a sport. Maybe you're going to play basketball with your younger brother, and you're going to school him. That means that you're going to play against him, you're going to win, and probably win by a lot of points. And it means you're gonna show him how basketball is played. You're going to school him. It's definitely something we say. And it's definitely slang when we're talking about doing something and just doing it really, really well so the other person sees how good we are at it. So when you school someone, you're not just winning. You're also kind of showing how good you are at it. You're just kind of showing off a little bit.WANT FREE ENGLISH LESSONS? This is an old phrase. I think it's from the 80s. I don't even know if anyone says it anymore, but it's a phrase we use to talk about someone who dresses really well, like, in a really hip way, who maybe just looks really good and they just look super cool. You might say, "Oh, they're too cool for school." It rhymes, so it's kind of fun to say. And again, it's a phrase that I'm just throwing in here for fun. Not a lot of people say this anymore, but if you watch movies from the 80s, you might hear someone use the phrase too cool for school. So to review, when you school someone, it means you play a sport against them, or even something like chess, and you play really well, and you kind of show them how the game is played. We would say that you are schooling them. And when you say someone is too cool for school, it simply means that they're really, really cool. They're too cool for school. But, hey, let's look at a comment from a previous video. This is from Mohd, Mohd Ags. "I think when Mr. Bob first started this channel the plan was to do a video every day or so. It was just a matter of time before he was brought back down to earth. Now he's settled for two videos a week, and I'm happy about that. P.S. Please let us know how your first day back at school went." And my reply, "Yes, I certainly bit off more than I could chew back then. Also, my first day went great."So I know you're watching this on a Friday. It's actually Wednesday when I'm, can't figure out how my tripod works. There we go. It's actually Wednesday right now when I'm making this video. So I am done, my first day of school. But let me back up a bit and reply to Mohd. Yeah, you know, I think I was a little bit naive when I started this channel. I think I was a little bit, I think I thought it was easier than it really is to make four videos a week. I would make them on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, and that ended up being quite a bit of work. So eventually I started doing, I think, I did three a week for a bit, and I settled down for two. And Mohd, thank you for the comment.Support the show
