Description

It's not every day that you get to sit down and interview your relative! In this amazing episode, we cover a lot of ground with one of my greatest heroes of all time - my very own maternal Grandfather. Straight from the horse's mouth, John Lillard asked me to include this for his bio:"I was born when I was a very small boy [tongue in cheek here - haha] in Cincinnati on May 31, 1930. I graduated from the University of Virginia in 1952 with a BA in English. On 12/21/52 I became an Ensign in the US Navy, 2 days later I got engaged in Dayton, then married on 9/12/53 [that's 70 years this fall!!]."When John was 88, he had a serious cancer scare and wrote his memoir, "A Lucky Life,"  for all of his relatives and descendents, and I have the luck of being one of them. I re-read the memoir for this interview and pulled many stories out of it that you will hear. However, there were a lot of stories missing that are included in our conversation and that simply came out of other stories, as stories often do.Before we started talking, John prepared three things in response to my request for them, including something he felt was important for this generation to hear, the legend about "a horse named Cuervo" that is told (or referenced) at most family reunions that we have, and a dirty joke that a few of us will never forget. I've saved those for you to hear t the very end of our interview. In between, we will cover what books Grandfather is reading, his solution to our mental health epidemic, how he won a dance competition with a dog named Belle, and the day he met Putin. You will not want to miss this episode with one of the greats of our time, who is famous for his one liners, money making mindset, business acumen, and down to earth honesty.  Pull up an ear, and listen in!Please help me celebrate John Lillard's 93rd birthday by reviewing the podcast and sending me a screenshot to share with him:[email protected]@catcaldwellmyersHorses, Mountains & Dogs Facebook Pagewww.catcaldwellmyers.comSupport the show

This Podcast returns us to the wisdom of our great grandparents and ancestors who likely worked with horses, mountains and dogs daily. Each episode contains actionable tools, tips and stories for modern day families and people to connect with nature through animals, as we have done for millennia. The work is a reflection of the truth about who we were, who we are, and who we might become if we only take the time to listen and work together with horses, mountains and dogs to grow mentally, physically, and spiritually one day at a time.
