Does that mean what I think it means? That it isn’t Billings who’s walking around out there, but that it’s his… I mean, god, it makes sense. He looks like him, but not exactly, he’s younger and— [click, static] Jesus christ. I really…I mean I really did that, didn’t I? I really brought him here, to this terrible place, where he’s been all alone and, god, he would’ve been just a kid and I— [click, static] Where’s his mother? Is she here too? Is she alive somewhere? Did he at least have her? I didn’t know that Billings had a kid. Of course I didn’t. I knew he was—well, I knew he was married, I guess. He had on a wedding ring when I—well, I remember because I took his— [click, static] I took his watch. It wasn’t even that nice of a watch, it was—it felt wrong to take his wallet, somehow, like digging into his pockets was too much of an invasion, which is probably an absurd thing to think after what I did to him, but— The watch. I thought maybe we could pawn it. I knew we’d need money eventually, thought we would get to Canada maybe and start over. But of course that ended up not being necessary. Not only could I not pawn anything, but I didn’t have to. Because what I did to Billings broke the world. And now his…his son? His son is imprisoned in this terrible future right along with us and maybe his wife too and I don’t know how to fix it. I don’t know if it can be fixed. [click, static]
