Borussia Dortmund are edging closer to several big moves in the summer transfer window, and at least one of them is not a Stuttgart player. Sky Sports reports that BVB are very close to finalizing a deal for Brighton & Hove Albion’s Pascal Groß. Bild reports that the move is imminent and that the last remaining obstacle is the negotiations between BVB and Brighton. Groß is expected to sign a two- or three-year deal and earn around €6m.

▫️The final detail that needs to be clarified is the contract term: either 2026 +1 or a contract until 2027.

The 33-year-old German international joined Brighton in 2017, making over 250 appearances for the Premier League club in his seven seasons in England. Groß has been arguably the most important player in Brighton’s ascendance in recent seasons, and his flexibility means he is capable of filling in at several spots in the midfield and doing so well. His performances for Brighton have seen him break into the Germany squad, making his debut under Hansi Flick last summer and recently getting picked for Julian Nagelsmann’s Die Mannschaft squad at Euro 2024.
Still, Groß is also 33, so there are concerns about his ability to remain the quality player he has been for Brighton and Germany. Being a central midfielder is among the most physically demanding roles in any team, and it is risky business to assume players in their 30s will continue to be good regardless of their position—hopefully, Groß ages like fine wine and not piss.
Your Thoughts?
What do you make of this move? Can Groß continue to deliver as he approaches his mid-30s?
