For the third summer in a row, Borussia Dortmund have signed a new striker. Earlier today, BVB officially completed a transfer for 28-year-old Serhou Guirassy from VfB Stuttgart for a reported transfer fee of €17.5 million. Guirassy has signed a four-year deal, meaning he will be on BVB’s books until he is 32 years old.

Guirassy is currently recovering from a knee injury that he suffered earlier in the summer. There are conflicting reports over whether or not he will be ready to start the season, although Ruhr Nachrichten is reporting that he will probably miss at least a few games.

The expectations for Guirassy will definitely be high. After a relatively unassuming career for most of what would be considered his “prime,” Guirassy absolutely exposed onto the scene last season, with a staggering 28 goals and 3 assists in the Bundesliga. Guirassy has almost certainly taken the main starting role from Niclas Füllkrug, who is now being tied to AC Milan, while pushing Sébastien Haller and Youssoufa Moukoko further down the depth chart. One or both of these strikers could also be gone, come the end of the window. Whatever happens, BVB’s attack will look very different come the new season.
