After Three Long Years, Chipotle Is Bringing back Fan-Favorite Smoked Brisket

Like when it first launched, the protein will only be available for a limited time.

When Chipotle first offered Smoked Brisket on its menus in the U.S. and Canada in September 2021, it was a big hit. People took to social media in significant numbers to express their love for it.

“If you haven’t tried brisket in your Chipotle bowl, you have to,” said one food-focused TikToker at the time. “It really is so phenomenal.”

“This does have star power, I would say,” said another, while munching on a Smoked Brisket Quesadilla.

Sadly, though, the popular protein was available only for a limited time. And ever since it vanished from menus, people have been clamoring for its return.

“Hey @Chipotle please bring back the brisket,” one person captioned a May 2023 TikTok video in which images of the Smoked Brisket were combined with a song about loneliness and heartbreak. Sample lyric: “I think about you all the time.”

Now, three years after its departure from menus, Chipotle’s Smoked Brisket, which the brand says is one of the items people most frequently request it reintroduce, is being brought back to Chipotle menu boards nationwide.

“We are listening to our guests and bringing this fan-favorite menu innovation out of the vault after three years,” said Chris Brandt, Chief Brand Officer. “This premium protein is sure to delight guests looking to taste the difference of brisket prepared the Chipotle way.”

The recipe will remain the same. “Made with Responsibly Raised beef, the menu innovation is seared on the plancha and seasoned with spices, including smoked serrano chili pepper and chipotle chili pepper,” the brand says. The meat is then “hand-chopped into tender, juicy bites and finished in a savory brisket sauce made with smoky chili peppers.”

The popular protein option is prepared in small batches all day long to make sure it’s always fresh.

Nevielle Panthaky, Chipotle’s vice president of culinary, recommends that, if you’ve never tried the chain’s Smoked Brisket before, you order it in a burrito bowl with white rice, black beans, fresh tomato salsa and cheese. I got an advance taste of that Smoked Brisket bowl and found it flavorful. The brisket was tender, sweet and smoky. Definitely crave-worthy.

I also had a chance to try the Smoked Brisket in a Fajita Quesadilla, with guac, sour cream and tomatillo-red chili salsa on the side. That was toothsome and tasty, too — and super filling.

My favorite way to eat the Smoked Brisket, though, is in my usual, go-to order. Like any Chipotle protein, you can order it in whatever dish you like.

To celebrate Smoked Brisket’s return, Chipotle is offering a $0 delivery fee on all Smoked Brisket orders placed through the Chipotle app, Chipotle.com and Chipotle.ca from Thursday, September 12 through Sunday, September 29 in the U.S. and Canada.

But don’t get too attached: Smoked Brisket is not back on Chipotle menus permanently. Like last time, it will be available for a limited time only.
