The Citi® Diamond Preferred® Card is ideal for those with a good to excellent credit. With its lengthy 0% introductory APR period for balance transfers and no annual fee, it offers a solid option for responsible borrowers. Take a closer look at how Citi decides to approve applicants and how your credit score can impact your chances of approval.
What credit score do you need for Citi® Diamond Preferred® Card?
A credit score of 670 or greater is recommended when applying for the Citi® Diamond Preferred® Card, but scores in the excellent credit tier of 740 or higher have the best shot.
Credit score requirements aren't hard and fast. It's possible to be approved with a score in the 600s but far less likely, just as it's possible to have a score above 700 and still not get approved.

How Citi decides whether to approve you
When Citi considers your creditworthiness for the Citi® Diamond Preferred® Card, your credit score isn't the only thing that matters. Some of the factors the company will look into include:
Your credit history
Your income
Your debt-to-income ratio
Your debt-to-income ratio is how much debt you have compared to how much money you make. More precisely, it's your monthly debts divided by your pretax monthly income.
One Citi personal credit card in any eight-day time frame
One business credit card in a 90-day period
Two Citi credit cards total in a 65-day window
If you exceed these limits, you'll be denied for the Citi® Diamond Preferred® Card.
What to do if you don't think you'll be approved
If you don't think you'll have a good chance at approval for the Citi® Diamond Preferred® Card based on your credit score, it might be worth waiting.
Each time you apply for a credit card, the card issuer does a hard pull on your credit report, otherwise known as a hard credit inquiry. While they aren't the most important factors in determining your credit score, too many recent inquiries on your credit report can drag down your score. So you want to target credit cards you have a good shot at getting approved for.
Here are a few other cards we love that are worth considering if you have less than perfect credit:

Increase your credit score to boost your chances of approval
Here are some steps you can take to increase your credit score if you don't qualify for the Citi® Diamond Preferred® Card:
Build a positive payment history by paying your bills on time. This is the single most important factor in your credit score.
Put small purchases on your card and pay it off in full each month.
Pay down existing balances on your credit cards.
Paying down outstanding credit card debt is one of the best things you can do to improve your credit quickly. Not only will this contribute to your payment history, but it will also decrease your amounts owed, which is the second most important category in calculating your credit score.
If you can't qualify for the Citi® Diamond Preferred® Card because of your credit score, it's also worth looking into similar credit cards with looser credit requirements. Even if you have poor credit, you can look into a secured credit card. These cards are an excellent tool for building good credit when you use them regularly and pay your bill on time each month.
We recommend comparing options to ensure the card you're selecting is the best fit for you. To make your search easier, here's a short list of standout credit cards.

There's no specific minimum credit score required for the Citi Diamond Preferred, but it's safe to assume you'll need at least a good credit score, which is usually defined as 670 or greater. However, applicants with excellent credit scores of 740 or higher have the best chance, although Citi looks at other factors such as your income, other debts and credit accounts, and more.
The Citi Diamond Preferred credit card is designed for customers with good or excellent credit histories. It isn't extremely difficult to get compared to some other credit cards and loan products, but you'll need income and a debt situation that meets Citi's standards as well.
