In general, protein powder can support weight management, muscle strength, higher energy levels and endurance, along with other potential benefits.
Still, “there are no significant differences in benefits for men and women when taking protein powder supplements,” explains Brittany Werner, a registered dietitian nutritionist, R.D.N., nutrition coach at Working Against Gravity and a Forbes Health Advisory Board member. However, she notes that some potential benefits may be of particular interest to women.
For instance, women may require more protein during certain life stages, like pregnancy, breastfeeding and menopause. Protein powders can be a convenient way to meet these extra nutrition requirements.
Additionally, women are at a higher risk of certain bone conditions, like osteoporosis. “Some protein powders, such as whey protein, provide a source of essential amino acids and can contribute to overall bone health,” Werner explains.
