Actor Jonathan Majors will begin working on his first movie role since his 2023 assault conviction, according to multiple outlets, though it remains unclear how or if a court-ordered intervention program Majors must attend this year will conflict with the movie’s shooting schedule.

Majors was cast in an independent movie that will be directed by Martin Villeneuve, the brother of “Dune” director Denis Villeneuve.
The movie, titled “Merciless,” is expected to start filming this fall, according to Variety, which noted Majors was recently ordered to attend a year-long domestic violence intervention program following his conviction.
The intervention program is based in Los Angeles and is an in-person obligation.
The revenge thriller will film in Saskatchewan and follows a CIA interrogator that has to save the woman he loves after she is overtaken by an evil force.
“Merciless” will also be Majors’ first time on the big screen since he starred opposite Michael B. Jordan in “Creed III.”
A representative for Majors did not immediately respond to Forbes’ request for comment.

Majors was removed from several projects after his arrest in March 2023. Marvel Studios cut ties with Majors last year, scrapping what would have been a prominent role as Kang, the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s next existential threat, in “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.” Majors was also dropped from the Lionsgate movie, “48 Hours in Vegas,” where the actor would have played Chicago Bulls Star Dennis Rodman during his infamous bender in Las Vegas during the 1998 NBA Finals. Majors lost his lead role in “The Man In My Basement,” an adaptation of the Walter Mosely mystery novel, according to Deadline.

Majors was convicted on one count of reckless assault and one count of harassment late last year over an altercation with his ex-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari, that resulted in the actor being arrested and accused of assault, strangulation and harassment. Majors, who claimed he was trying to avoid attacks from Jabbari after she grabbed his phone in a taxi, avoided a second assault charge and one count of aggravated harassment. The actor was acquitted on those charges because they believed Majors did not intentionally harm Jabbari but did harass her during the altercation.
