Kesha is back, and this time around, she’s doing things her way. The pop superstar recently dropped her new single “Joyride,” and the tune gives the singer her first smash on a pair of rankings as it arrives.
“Joyride” debuts on four Billboard charts this week in America. It grants the Grammy nominee her first appearance on one list, as well as her first top 10 on two different tallies. For the moment, the tune’s success is limited to the dance and electronic rankings, but on those lists, it’s an immediate win for her.
Kesha’s comeback single brings her to the top 10 on both the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs and Dance/Electronic Streaming Songs charts for the very first time. On the former list, which uses a methodology that includes sales, streams, and radio airplay, it opens at No. 7. On the latter, which focuses solely on streaming activity, it starts at No. 6.
This week marks Kesha’s first time reaching the Dance/Electronic Streaming Songs chart. That may come as a surprise to some longtime fans, as much of the material that made her a household name can be classified as either dance or electronic, as well as pop. However, the tally was inaugurated after she already scored a number of massive hits.
While “Joyride” may count as Kesha’s first top 10 on the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart, the tune is actually her second to reach the list. In 2021, she joined Sam Feldt on the single “Stronger,” which climbed as high as No. 13.
“Joyride” is also new to the top 10 on one other Billboard list, though Kesha isn’t new to the region on that tally. On the Dance/Electronic Digital Song Sales chart, the high-octane club banger debuts at No. 2. It misses out on giving her another champion by one space, as Marshmello and Miles Kane’s “Miles on It” is steady at No. 1.
Kesha’s first single as an independent musician succeeds largely thanks to a healthy sales sum. The track sold a little less than 1,600 copies in the past tracking period, according to Luminate. That’s not quite enough for the cut to land on the all-genre Digital Song Sales chart, but it was close. The title also reaches the Bubbling Under Hot 100 at No. 21, meaning it only misses the main Hot 100 by 21 spots.
