Rumors spread throughout the past week that Beyoncé was planning on making an appearance at the 2024 Democratic National Convention. Anticipation skyrocketed to an all-time high on Thursday when some people on social media predicted she’d show up on the main stage, perhaps even to perform. Since it was the evening when Kamala Harris would accept her party’s nomination for the presidency, many assumed that’s when the singer would arrive.
The moment came and went, and Beyoncé never appeared. She wasn’t scheduled to do so, but that didn’t stop countless fans and political viewers from hoping she would. While the woman herself wasn’t there, her music is still benefiting from its use at what may be the biggest political event of the year for the Democratic party.
Beyoncé currently sits inside the top 10 on iTunes in the U.S. with a tune that has come to be closely associated with Harris’ political campaign. “Freedom,” her duet with Kendrick Lamar, appears at No. 4 on the ranking of the bestselling songs on the platform in America.
“Freedom” bolts into the top 10, rising more than 15 spaces on Friday (August 23) morning. The track last appeared inside the uppermost region only a few days ago, as it’s been performing very well lately.
The Harris campaign has used “Freedom” repeatedly throughout the past several days and even weeks. The possible future president has utilized the cut to soundtrack videos that have been widely shared.
Beyoncé’s permission to make use of her song doesn’t extend beyond Harris, though. Donald Trump’s campaign recently released a video with the same track playing in the background, but it didn’t stick around for very long. The superstar’s legal team threatened a cease and desist almost immediately after the visual was shared online, and it was quickly taken down.
A second take on “Freedom,” featured on Beyoncé’s live album Homecoming, is also on the rise. That live tune reappears on the list of the top-selling cuts in the U.S. on iTunes at No. 70.
The album that the original “Freedom” is featured on, Lemonade, is also gaining momentum. It’s up more than 50 spaces on iTunes in the U.S., and currently lives right below the middle of the roster of the bestselling full-lengths in the country. Lemonade is even outselling Beyoncé’s newer set, Cowboy Carter, which was released earlier this year.
