SOUTH SALT LAKE, Utah — A baby boy died Monday at Primary Children’s Hospital after his mother reportedly drove a minivan into a pond with the child inside.

Police say 28-year-old Brittanie Mae Miloshevsky drove the vehicle into a pond at "Golf in the Round" late Sunday night with her 18-month-old son strapped in a car seat.

South Salt Lake police responded to a call about possible criminal mischief in the area of 600 West and 3300 South a little before 11:30 p.m. Sunday night.

Two officers arrived and located the suspect, then quickly realized they had a critical emergency situation on their hands, when she told them the boy was still in the van.

The officers dove in multiple times to get the child out a South Salt Lake Police spokesperson said. He was transported to the hospital in critical condition and later died.

Miloshevsky was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on suspicion of numerous charges, including driving under the influence resulting in serious bodily injury, child abuse, child endangerment and criminal mischief. The child abuse charge was later upgraded to child abuse homicide.

Investigators are looking into reports that Miloshevsky was joyriding on the golf course when she went into the retention pond.

She has no known connection to the establishment.
